CHICAGO --

Police are asking for help in locating an 11-year-old boy who was "dragged away" from his foster family's home by his homeless mother.

Betty Bailey, 40, who has a history of mental problems, tried to grab two of her children from the front porch of their foster home on the 4200 block of West Hirsch Street at around 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Grand Central Area Detective Thomas Hoff said.

Bobby Norman was "dragged away," Hoff said, but his 12-year-old sister managed to escape.

Police were searching for Bailey in areas she was known to spend time, such as around Laramie Avenue and Lake Street, and Ohio Street and Tripp Avenue.

Bailey is described as African-American, 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing about 325 pounds, with short black hair. She was last seen dressed all in pink.

Bobby has a medium complexion, is 4 feet 11 inches tall, and weighs around 120 pounds. He was last seen wearing gym shoes, black pants and no shirt.

Bailey has a history of violence toward authority figures, but has never been reported for harming her children.

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services removed Bailey's children from her care two years ago, and she was not supposed to know where they were living, police said.

When Bailey first approached Bobby and his sister, she said she wanted to taken them to Kiddieland, an amusement park in Melrose Park, police said.
