Wise Master Buehrle
We all know our rotation is not as great as the Cubs. We all know that Ozzie tends to leave his starters in for more than 100 pitches. Manuel, and most managers, pull their starters after thay give up quite a few runs. Ozzie leaves them in there for another shot. Sometimes they come back strong, sometimes they don't. Garland, Buerhle, Loaiza have all had these oppurtunities, and in the few times they have been left in, their ERA has ballooned. Garland, Buerhle, and Loaiza all have ERA's in the 4's, but I think it'd be safe to say they would be higher 3's or lower 4's if Ozzie did pull them if he somehow knew they were going to give up more runs. For the rest of the season, I'm not going to worry about starting pitchers ERA's. I came up with this while thinking last night, but what do you all think? hi8is
i think that with our club and our offence... the win - loss record of burley and e low shows a lot.... in terms of the Ozzie factor.... garland could be much better, and Show... i think... would be about 7 and 4 without his injury... that has been nagging him for his last few starts, but has just now recently come to the media and fan's surface
YASNY
You definitely have a valid theory there. In fact, I know Garland "took one for the team" when he didn't have it and Ozzie left him in the game to rest the bullpen and to teach Garland he has to work through the bad times. His ERA jumped a full run in that game. I can't remember any details about the particular game, though. So don't ask me. I'm too lazy to research it. Gene Honda Civic
It has effected thier ERA's. Take Buehrle's last outing, prior to tonight, mark went back out there in the 8th, gave up three straight singles, Ozzie pulls him and Broussard puts the next pitch from MJ in the seats... That f***in hurt Marks ERA.. I don't care abuot ERA's though, and I don't think the starters do either -- THey just want to win.. I don't even worry about the pitch counts, at least not with Buehrle, Loaiza, Galand, and Garcia. Those guys have proven that they can handle the load. Their arms have built up thte strength to handle the long grind of the season. My one concern was Schoeneweis' ability to hold up for the long haul, he hasn't started in two seasons, and has already surpassed his Innings Pitched total of the last two years. We still need another arm as an insurance policy.
hi8is
what about Rauch, Diaz as an insurance arm... now that they have both came up with good WINS for us? just throwing that out there
SoxAce
I think you wasted your time.. Yea IMO, I think these pitchers would rather have it this way (esp. Garland) because if they inherit a runner on base in late innings usually Manuel would take em out and most of the time the relief pitcher would score that run. (or he'll overwork Marte) Now Garland, Buehrle etc.. are pitching around that now. Yes they still might have him score, but he'll know it's on him if he makes that bad pitch. I'm sure they don't give a s*** what their era is, just that they get that W.

Wise Master Buehrle
It's obvious these guys don't care about their ERA. Some posters here take ERA a bit too seriously though. Esteban/Mark/Jon could all have sub 3 ERA's just as easily as their 4 ERAs.

It's hard to post a good ERA when you have to make half of your starts in the American League's version of Coors Field. I know that chicks dig the long ball or whatever, but come on. This is ridiculous. Move the fences back.....way back.

Move the fences back.....way back. good catch...cutting off the top of the upper deck and opening up the back wall has led to sdox park going from a balanced place to pitch to a hitter's paradise...look at the number of homers runs per innings pitch all of our pitcher have given up...now look at how many newcomer freddie garcia has given up all year...its laughable ,the difference...almost all our pitchers, except for a few in the pen are giving up homers at a rate of about 15 -20% per innings pitched...freddie garcia is under 10%...and he is a power pitcher..not a sinker ball pitcher

Those flyball outs in Safeco could be homers(and in some cases, long homers) in USCF.
