Too many pitches

It seemed like to me that freedy threw way to many pitches this game. If he could have kept his pitch count down he might have dominated into the 7th or 8th inning. Even though he pitched great i personally would have wanted to see him go a little longer.

I wasn't worried about his pitch count. He hung a few breaking balls. Simple as that. It wasn't because he was tired.

He only threw 105 pitches tonight, he probably could have gone another inning but I think Ozzie felt comfortable pulling him with a 3 run lead the way Politte-Marte-Shingo have been shutting it down. If you mean threw too many as in he didn't manage his pitches well and fell behind to alot of hitters then yes I agree. All night it seemed if he wasn't striking people out on 3-4 pitches he was going to full counts. He had no BB's and 9 K's and gave us a solid 6 innings, all in all a very good first outing.

Plain and simple...

Power Pitchers throw more pitches per inning normally than finesse ones.

If they get a lot of Ks, they threw a lot of fastballs or not as hittable pitches for foul balls or called/swinging strikes.

Finesse pitchers get lower pitch counts because of easier to hit pitches. (ie. flyballs/groundouts)

Yeah, thats something kinda new to the Sox. A SUCCESSFUL Power Pitcher. Notice successful is all capitals. We had a big 'ol tub of lard last year who was a power pitcher but was UNsuccessful. (See Colon, Bartolo)

So 15-13 3.87 in 242 innings is unsuccessful all of a sudden?

It is not ace material, like he should have been, but it is not unsuccessful.

And that was only Freddy Garcia's first start. He has about 15 or so left. He hasn't been successful by any means yet.

Exactly that is the reason we got him and he failed in doign so. Still decent but nothing spectacular for the money.

A pitcher throwing for you once every 5 days isn't going to take you to the promised land on his own. I'm glad Bart didn't throw for us like he is for Anaheim this year, and he wasn't the Second Coming but he was a workhorse for us last year.

Doing your job = being successful. His job was to come in, be the ace, and take us to the playoffs. He did not do his job therefore Bartolo Colon = unsuccessful.

Lets not put last year's choke job all on, Bartolo. Sure he wasn't as good as we would've hoped. But he was our best pitcher down the stretch. I remember back2back starts against the Yankees/RedSox in September where he completely dominated. I look at Buehrle's awful 1st half, Loaiza's choke job in September, Konerko and Crede dissapearing the first 3 months, Rick White getting Tattooed, Danny's Wright's sorry ass, Botch, Nuff said. And of course that manager we had last year. What was his name? That's why we didn't make the playoffs.
