Moronatti Does it Again

If we can't sign Maggs I hope he does go to the Flubs.

It sickens me that we are a small market team in such

a big city.

If Reinsdork can't get creative in making money from tv, etc.

in such a big city and he refuses to re-sign Maggs, I hope

he does go to the Flubs.

Maggs probably doesn't want to leave town, anyway.

He'd be happy in Wrigley if he can't be at the Cell.

Watch us resign Maggs and Moronotti will call it a genius move by KW...

I really wish he would walk to his car unsurrounded once

and get noticed and plummeted.

--Hope you are kidding. Nothing's worth hurting somebody and getting

thrown in the slammer at the same time.

I agree that Sammy is an egomaniac and that he wouldn't move to left if Roberto Clemente rose from the dead and wanted to play right. I also believe that even if Maggs doesn't sign this deal, there is a chance he will be back. I doubt that there will be that many monster 5 year deals out there for Maggs. He's a 30 year old RF that recently had knee surgery. I know it is pretty minor, but so was Vlad's back injury last year. They were suggesting that he would get A-Rod money before that. Teams are always leary about knee and back injuries, and arm injuries for pitchers. I really don't think Maggs will get a 5 year $70 mil offer, especially since he is older than the most recent players to get huge deals. There aren't that many teams out there with that kind of money to throw around, and they have other issues. The Yankees will spend, but they just signed Shef and are going to go hard after a starter. The Red Sox are possible, but they have their own free agents to worry about. The Dodgers and Mets have the payroll, but they also have some albatross contracts and might not want to pay the luxary tax. As for the Cubs, I highly doubt the Tribune would allow such a move. They are notorious for caring more about business than the team, and they spent a lot of money last year. They also have their own guys to worry about. They need to try to sign Clement, and they are trying to give Ramirez an extension. In the next few years they are going to have to cough up monster money for Prior and Zambrano, and will need to make a call on Lee and Sammy, who they likely will be forced to pay because of his popularity. Eventually the Trib is going to have to decide if they want to be the Yankees or if they want to maximize profits. Expect the latter.

I'm surprised this fool still has a job. Sosa will welcome a move to LF to make room for MAggs?! You expect this kind of thing from a middle school kid not a professional sportswriter with his own radio show. Is there a person in this city who likes this guy or thinks he has anything worthwhile to say about anything?

He needs to move onto the next town because he's certainly worn out his welcome here.

He's a f***ing dumass . Everybody here knows it yet every time he says something stupid, which is quite often, people get up on here and start jumping up and down about it. Who gives a s***.

I'm with Nuke. mariotti's opinions, on anything, mean nothing.

My comments were directed at the people who pay his salary, whether at the sun-times or ESPN 1000. Sports fans should ignore him, sure. No one takes him seriously. But I don't know how Mariotti helps their businesses. He continually shows he's an ill-informed fool who does nothing for Chicago sports.

So Jay is now writing that Maggs might go to the Cubs?  :o  :o  :o  To

paraphrase Claude Rains, I'm shocked. Shocked I tell you. Especially

since I posted this:

On June 11, nearly a month ago. Amazing, my powers of foresight. I humbly

award myself another "Aristonidis" award. For those who don't know, he was

a 16th century prophet who, according to Woody Allen, once made the pre-

diction "two nations will go to war, but only one will win."

First off, random Casablanca refs are always good. But on the Aristonidis bit, I've always been more impressed with this other prognostication attributed to him:

'A leader will emerge in France. He will be very short and cause great calamity'. (This is a reference either to Napoleon or Marcel Lumet, an eighteenth-century midget who instigated a plot to rub bearnaise sauce on Voltaire.)

simply uncanny...

You're right about the Marcel Lumet one. But I think that this may be his most

uncanny prediction: "In the New World, there will be a place called California,

and a man named Joseph Cotten will become famous."
