kapkomet
I voted Ripken, especially in the "crybaby athletes" age. The hit streak would be a close second.
southsider2k5
As impressive as Ripkens streak was, all he had to do was show up. He didn't have to hit to keep his streak alive. And after seeing how hard it was when Carlos got to 28, I can't imagine 56.
CubsSuck1
IMO, the Ripken streak is overrated. Playing staright games really doesn't guarentee that you help your team much. Actualy, here and there, I'd like to give players off days to stay fresh.

I think I would rank them.... Ripken DiMaggio Gagne Hershiser
IlliniKrush
DiMaggio. Ripken's close, but his was more "lucky" than DiMaggio's, i imagine. I'm not saying it's luck, but Ripken was lucky not to suffer a large injury, or miss time due to family issues, etc. DiMaggio's was just pure execution, and was ridiculously long. Goldmember
ripken's feat pales in comparison to the rest. the others' took skill and talent. as ss2k4 said all ripken basically had to do was "show up"...

Queen Prawn
I missed one day in HS (Feb of my Senior year) because of a traffic ticket - 2 of 3 were thrown out and the remaining one was $15. The cop was pissed but he was an asshole.

IlliniKrush
QP, that's insane. I didn't miss much school, but i'd at least take off opening day every single year since i've been in high school, plus i was real ill a few times only for a day or so

I didn't miss much school, but i'd at least take off opening day every single year since i've been in high school, plus i was real ill a few times only for a day or so The insane day was in my sophmore year. I was sick as adog, but I had a test to take. I was getting straight A's in that class (Earth Science) so I figured one lower test grade wouldn't hurt too much...I ended up getting an A on the test lol. Similar thing when I took the first Professional Engineering test - I had a b****in' migraine, but I passed the damned thing with flying colors. Being the dumb ass that I am, I never took the second one so the test was null and void after a year. Kind of a dumb rule if you ask me, but that is the State of Illinois for ya. greasywheels121
I was pretty good about not missing school until senior year, because senior year's basically a waste of time. I only missed seven days from kindergarten to junior year of HS. Four of the seven days were the first four days of 1st grade when I was just getting over the chicken pox.... However, if I ranked these by the likelihood of them getting broken, I'd rank them like in the following order: Hershiser Gagne DiMaggio Ripken
southsider2k5
My personal rankings. Joltin Joe Hershiser Gagne Ripken
Wedge
Ripkin's is the least likely to be broken, I think. That's largely due to just the style of managing these days with giving off-days to everyday players to keep the bench fresh. I think DiMaggio's is more impressive, but will someday be broken. I think the most impressive thing about it is that after his one hitless game, he started another 20+ game hit streak. That record could be 80 games! Yoda
I voted Gagne. The guy must have had a bad day yesterday in order for him to blow a save like that. 84 in a row is just unbelievable IMO.

It wasn't terrible, though. The game tying hit could have been fielded, probly...i'm sure you'll see a replay
