Rex Hudler
The Trib has an article writtin by Rogers that says the Orioles are looking at Carlos Lee as well as Griffey. I doubt it will happen, but Joe B. could force them to consider it. I just don't see he Sox really having any needs at the Major League level right now and I don't think you trade a guy like Carlos for Minor Leaguers. No need to rock the boat at this point. method
I believe they are trying to package sidney ponson and a couple minor leaguers for Griffey... i bet they would want to trade ponson... with us too... A rotation of Colon, Bhurle, Garland, Ponson and whoever would be pretty damn awesome... But i would rather we keep Carlos for this year. JB needs some more time at AAA. I expect the sox to move him along the same way Crede was moved thru... They will wait till they feel his swing is compact nuff... And he seems to be responding quite well. Rex Hudler
Speculation is that Sidney Ponson could be involved. Doesn't say much in detail and doesn't even say that talks have existed. Just that the Orioles scouts are looking at him. It goes on to say how hard Carlos has worked and how he has come to ST in the best shape of his life. He seemed to raise his stock last year when he increased his walk total so much. He was only one of 13 big leaguer's that had more walks than strikeouts with more than 80 RBI. KW says he isn't interested in trading him.

method
Glad to see KW has no intrest in trading him... i would rather they trade KONG first. I want a STUD defensive 1Bman... a guy like Olreud.
MurcieOne
Carlos looks to be finally coming around............Joe Borchard has some 34 ML at-bats in his career.......and Ponson is currently a mediocre pitcher at best......why bother? MurcieOne
Why not try and nab Griffey for Caballo??? I know thats extra salary were picking up.......but corner OF's aren't hard to find in comparsion to proven natural CF's are. Lets face it......JB isn't really cut out to play CF. Just a suggestion. Daubach/Rowand in left JR. in center Magglio in right whadaya think?
Mathew
Is it Jason that really likes Ponson, I wonder what he thinks on that rumour?
Cali
It would be just our luck, Caballo would put up MVP numbers in Baltimore, and Ponson would fall flat on his face.
Cali
Though I wouldn't mind some kind of 4 way deal involving the Sox, Reds, Royals, and Orioles, where we somehow got Beltran

Mario is the one who likes Ponson alot....... but I think even he would turn his nose down at this trade.

Not to mention no way the Sox are taking on 6 years and $79 M, when they have Maggs, Buehrle and possibly Colon to take care of in the next few years. Reds could take the salary space and get a Rogers, or Finley.......and maybe we deal a prospect. Not saying that this is all that plausible.........however I do think that they would deal Griffey for something other than pitching. I think they want the cap space more than the players. if they could get both all the better.

Not saying that this is all that plausible.........however I do think that they would deal Griffey for something other than pitching. I think they want the cap space more than the players. if they could get both all the better. They offered Griffey for Mags because they were hoping KW was high and would say yes. Also, Mags is making around half of what Junior is making. Not to mention the fact that over the past 2 or 3 years, Mags' numbers have dwarfed Griffey's. And yes, if the Sox would have said "Yes", they would have cleared a few million and could have probably acquired BOTH Rogers and Finley. So they'd be getting Mags, Rogers, and Finley for an aging and seemingly unmotivated Ken Griffey Jr. In other words, it would have been the most brilliant trade in MLB history. That said...I hope the Sox don't trade anybody at this time. I want to see what this team can do when they have their heads on straight. I think 2003 is the year that will happen (unlike '01 and '02).
cwsox
I am in no rush to trade CLee. He improves every year and this year his bat could be awesome. CLee is everyone's favorite trade bait year in and year out, and he remains with us getting better and better.

That is exactly the way I feel about Carlos Lee. I think he is going to be a tremendous hitter. If Carlos continues to be patient and draw walks, I can see him developing into a lesser form of Frank Thomas. I think Carlos has .300, 35, 110 potential, and him hitting behind the likes of Thomas, Ordonez, and Konerko is only going to make him better (pitchers have to pitch to somebody). I don't understand why everyone would be so willing to trade him for some scrub. Trading him now would be a huge mistake. Maybe if he falters in 2003 -- but not before then. Bmr31
There are 1000 rumors to every one trade. Why do you even care? From what i read, we need to keep Lee. The sox havent exactly had a lot of "focused players, coming off improvment, who are in great shape" type of players, lately. Lets see how he does. If we do trade him. oh God please, I would think we could get more than a stiff like Ponson.

That is exactly the way I feel about Carlos Lee. I think he is going to be a tremendous hitter. whatever carlos hits he will give it back with poor defensive play and baserunning..thus he will always be overpaid..thats something this franchise will never do...borchard is coming soon..if i was a pitcher and saw a defensive outfield of lee - borchard - maggs i would just save everybody the time and effort and just throw the ball into the gap in LC...carlos and borchard can not ,imo , play in the same outfield together ...thats a disaster looking for a place to happen... an outfield of maggs - rowand - borchards gives you 2 potential gold glovers on the corners (maggs in LF and borchard in rf)...an outfield of lee - borchard and maggs gives you the worst defensive LF in baseball...a RF thats playing out of position in CF and a RF thats average but would make an excellent LF... Soxfest
C Lee will be traded , he will not get longterm deal, his defense is god awful, trade him while you can get value, but Orioles deal blows bad .

I don't think any trades should be made save a small deal for a guy who wasn't going to make the team anyway. I like what we have going in and hope KW sticks to his guns and lets things play out from here. At least for the first half of the season.
