DBAHO
From the Daily Southtown, However, Loaiza thinks the market has been set with Garcia's deal. "Them signing him is a big break for me," Loaiza said. "Every year, when (Garcia's) contract has been up, my contract's up. I'd let him sign first in the winter, then I'd sign, because it's normally the same range of numbers. "Now, with my two years of All-Star (invitations), being a 20-game winner last year and hopefully I get 18 (wins) this year, there will probably be more money for me." Williams didn't seem very eager to get something done with Loaiza.

aboz56
If someone gives him huge money, he'll be the next Chan Ho Park. Book it. Sorry Loaiza, but no way do you merit Garcia money.

aboz56
You think Texas will do the same? Imagine Loaiza and Ho Park on their books. :puke No I think a team like Detroit, who needs a SP badly, will go after Loaiza.
Gene Honda Civic
Who would you pay more in the Off-season... Loaiza or Lowe??? Both are going to be due big paydays, whether they deserve it or not.
aboz56
Who would you pay more in the Off-season... Loaiza or Lowe??? Both are going to be due big paydays, whether they deserve it or not. Matt Morris deserves more than both of them along with Pedro. Those two guys to me will command the best deals. But I would probably take Loz over Lowe, although Lowe is a groundball pitcher who could be good again in a pitchers park.
marsh
I'd let him sign first in the winter, then I'd sign, because it's normally the same range of numbers. did he actually say that with a straight face? one year does not = same range as freddy garcia i hope he is not buying the hype with that undeserved all-star pick. if someone offers him 3yrs at 6per he should jump on it. although there is probably a team out there that will give him escobar numbers. Loaiza and Lowe just have simillar backgrounds, so I was comparing them... I said earlier that I expect Loaiza to get more than 7MIL per year in the offseason.. I wouldn't say Matt Morris has had the best season at all, he's lost 3 to 5 MPH on his fastball and it's been showing on his performances this year. Carl Pavano will get the most money I still feel for any FA pitcher this offseason besides Pedro.

EvilJester99
I say let him go if he really expects that kind of money. The Sox could find a better starter for that kind of money or even less. I think Loaiza is ok but he seems like he gets very lazy at times and doesn't push himself enough. IMO

IMO his 2003 season will go down in history as one of the greatest fluke seasons ever. his numbers were sick. awesome. the fact is he was pretty much lights out except for a small stretch near the end of the year. he will get the wins this year mostly due to run support but all of his "down and dirty" numbers :puke

southsider2k5
There is no way I would pay Esteban anything near what I would pay Garcia. You can already see Elo slipping back to mediocrity.
kapkomet
If Chan Ho Park weren't on the books here in Texas, daaaaymmmn they would have a TON of room to make some decent moves this year. Since they are on the hook for the fatass contract, they can't do much, but nonetheless they are still looking good this season, and you can partially thank the Sox for that. As far as Esteban, there's no way he commands that kind of money. He's posturing, using the media, and *cough, cough* it ain't gonna work. BTW, the Sox are in town right after the ASG, looking forward to watching them play...

He has a tendon issue. I don't think it's surgery worthy. I'm not so worried about the loss in velocity if he can keep it under control. He's just setting the wheels in motion for his bargaining position. It's not a bad move on his part. If he winds up with 17-19 wins this year, someone will pay him what he wants. If the Sox lose a bunch of FA derbies, such as Pavano/Lowe/Morris, they'll probably end up paying for Esty to return. He's not a bad #3 guy at all, just not for #1 type money. greasywheels121
Well then Loaiza....Thanks for 2003, but you're not going to pull a Mags here and try to get Garcia money. I'd be glad to have Loaiza stay here after 2004, but only for the right price.
