ZeroHour
The hangup is clearly Sox-nomics in the back years. I really dont know why this is a sticking point with players, they still get paid and lets the team pay more for otehr players NOW rather than when Maggs is 36. You have to think the structure of Frank contract is whats letting us play with all these new toys now, dont you? Payroll has not increased significantly year to year since the old Belle/Navarro days, and guess what? those days SUCKED.
BlizzardOfOzzie
IlliniKrush - I agree with your plea. Talking about eating "peed-upon snow cones" and "eating hot poop" does not entice me to futher this thread, either. Moving on ... if KW can miraculously get Maggs signed before the All-Star break, that wold be pivotal to the rest of this season, yet alone the future. This way Maggs can relax, not worry about some bulls*** $$$ cloud hanging over his head, and just go out and play baseball. I'm not sure what bothers me more - Maggs trade rumors or the possibility of losing him and getting nothing in return. Both options are not very cool. Brian
Ewwuuu.. :puke The vomit smiley never gets old for me. I think it's hilarious when his eyes start rolling before he up chucks! Oh yeah, I'm getting tired of Maggs for some reason. I want him resigned but just by making all these offers should show we REALLY want him here. If he is being a stiff, ship him to a last place team and see how he likes it for all I care. Of course, if we sign him, I luuuuuuv Maggs. winninguglyin83
love maggs. a lot. but I'm not sure it's wise to be paying him huge dollars five years from now. By then, you hope one of these guys -- Brian Anderson, Ryan Sweeney, Ricardo Nanita, Thomas Brice or Chris Young -- has stepped forward to replace him. for now, I'd be much happier if the Sox did something novel -- like win a game. BlizzardOfOzzie
Well, I know most of you people hate Mariotti, but his column today is correct - plain and simple, the Sox offense is overall better with Maggs in it. It just seems to have more chemistry and clicks better when Maggs is in the lineup. The stats don't lie.
BobDylan
I may eat my own s*** if we can actually sign Maggs. I'll be holding you to that.

It just seems to have more chemistry and clicks better when Maggs is in the lineup. The stats don't lie. No doubt about it. When Maggs is healthy the Sox have just about the most potent 3-7 in baseball. Ordonez Thomas Lee Konerko Valentin Without Magglio the face of this lineup changes dramatically. Not to mention his defensive skills in RF.

baggio202
wonder if JR , getting older now and its 23 years w/o a winner since he took over , might finally open up the purse strings and really go after buying a championship...he cant take all that money with him...he has to realize that
CubsSuck1
Even if we sign Maggs, we then absolutely NEED to at least get into the playoffs, if not deep. We will desperately need the extra cash to rersign other players and not be last years Texas Rangers a few years down the line...to a lesser extent. BlizzardOfOzzie
Not to go off on a tangent with this thread, but METALLISOX - that picture of Sharapova with a banana in her mouth is HOT! Where the hell did you find that? I'm normally not big on blondes, I prefer brunettes, but Sharapova is hot as hell. I'm so glad she won, because it just makes Kournakova look even more stupid and worthless. Kournakova tried saying one time that she's better looking than Elizabeth Hurley. Um, no you stupid b!tch with the crooked teeth - you're not even close to being as hot as Hurley. Quit dreaming. Anyway - nice pic.
Steff
That is what Bruce Levine reported yesterday. He said the holdup was deferred money in the last year, either 5, 10, or 15 years down the road at either 1 or 2 percent intrest AND/OR not enough up front money. Sounds more like an agent issue to me than a player issue, but that is just silly speculation on my part. Offerman said there was an issue with year 5.. not specifically that it was a financial issue. With $$ being such a big deal with this club I would imagine that if it were $$ and they had a hit of that... that they would be reporting it out the wazoo... JMO though. hi8is
i read on the mlb board that the offer was 12 mil per the first 4 years, with his last 5th year having some of that 12 mil defered at 1 or 2% intrest he wants 5/70 or 14 mil a year we are offering 5/60 with some defered thats a completley fair offer for maggs and if he dosent take it then he's being a greedy asshole and should take a page outta franks book and try to stay with a team his entire carrer... i mean come on, 60 mil, 70 mil... im sure he's not gonna have trouble sleeping knowing that he and his family will be in the 60 MILLION DOLAR BRACKET i doubt he signs, hope he proves me worng thou

BrandoFan
Magglio is not having a Vladimir Guerrero season. Why is he getting Vladimir Guerrero money? Let him earn it first by having a 2nd half of his career (Albert Belle 1998) and leading the Sox past ALDS. Then we give him what he wants or receive comp picks. I don't like going to the playoffs with Garcia as #1 - his 4.15 Road ERA and questionable make-up don't thrill me. Does anyone believe Sox can score 5+ runs a game against Pedro/Shilling/Brown/Hudson/Mulder/Vasquez in a hostile environment, on the national TV no less? I have my doubts. A few of those guys you mentioned have been pretty inconsistent. Pedro has been rocked in a bunch of outings, and doesn't have the stamina he once did. Brown has been hurt and was only doing good not great. Depending on him to be healthy is a mistake, and he may not even be effective if he gets back. Mulder, Schilling, Hudson, and Vasquez are a bit of a concern, but we should have beat Mulder already this year(f***ing Koch). The point is we don't need to score 5 runs a game to win like we did in 2000. Our pitching has been decent this year. Don't worry about Garcia's road ERA, half of that is the matchups. Plus, the other guys in these teams rotations are pretty weak. Lieber, Wakefield, and Redman don't exactly strike fear in my heart.
Ozzietheairedale
I think we got some "spin" to diffuse Maggs comments yesterday. I hope I'm wrong.. but I don't think there's anything new. This is what I was talking about in the "other thread". Why would KW make an offer and then announce it publically if not to put pressure on Maggs to sign it? If I was Maggs or his agents, that would just serve to piss me off.

Maybe you should wait until Sox score 1 or 2 ER off a tough starter (esp RHP) in a nationally televised road game before being all confident and stuff about Sox chances. BrandoFan
how about we win a freakin game before we worry about the playoffs? You know what? If this Sox team can't handle 2004 Minnesota freakin' Twins, then what else is there to talk about? Why bother with the loser underachieving players and/or with greedy, short-sighted, insincere ownership that couldn't capitalize on a golden opportunity after a golden opportunity to bring home a winner after a century of almost uninterupted mediocrity or worse?
