greasywheels121
Yeah cuz we weren't 7.5 Games down at the break last Year rolleyeyes.gif True, but they're only have 2 head to head games in the standings after the break. We had a ton of games left w/ KC and Minnesota last year. Crazier things have happened, but they'll have a harder time doing it. However, once that team's all healthy again..... Rowand44
Yeah cuz we weren't 7.5 Games down at the break last Year rolleyeyes.gif Well we didn't win the divison, even though we ended up taking the lead for a period. The difference is we had a ton of games with the twins and kc left, the flubs don't. It obviously not impossible for them but I just don't think it would happen, just my opinion. Jordan4life_2007
Yeah cuz we weren't 7.5 Games down at the break last Year rolleyeyes.gif lol. And did we win the division? Everybody new last year's Royals were garbage. It was gonna come down to the Sox and Twins. And obviously the Twins won it. This Cardinal team is for real. Might be the best team in baseball. They have the best offense and defense in the league. A capable starting staff and bullpen.
Wise Master Buehrle
Well, I guess that's better for the, Cards. Okay, I've been keeping quiet about this for a LONG time. But now, I'm just sick of it! The correct way to say it is "Well, I geuss that's better for the Cards." NOTE: NO comma before Cards. Whenever I read your posts I end up getting messed up because of the pauses at commas. I read "Yeah, The Sox will beat the, (PAUSE) Cubs" and it's honestly driving me bonkers. It's amazing how one grammatical error can so easily butcher a sentence. In fact, most don't. But this horrendous grammatical mistake is annoying! DO you get the gist of what I'm saying?

Weren't we playing a big chunk of our gms against the Red Sox and Yankess in September, while the Twins were fatning up on the 43-119 Tigers? And you say we had a 2 gm lead with 2 weeks to go? Didn't the Twins take like 4 or 5 straight from us in September to jump right ahead of us in the standings? My point being, With the Cubs having no gms left with the Cards in the second half they'll be relying on OTHER teams to help them out, while having to play lights out baseball themselves. It's much, much harder to come back that way. You said the world champs were 13gms back? You're right, And they finished about 13 gms in back of the Braves. They made the wildcard. And obviously that's still there for the Cubs. I never said they couldn't win the wildcard. But as far as winning the division. That might be outta the question. I used to be one of those people who type "u" instead of "you" and so on and so forth, and that, while readable, is very very annoying. Spiff
This Cards-Cubs rivalry is supposedly comparable to Red Sox-Yankees, but watching this game it's not even close. There doesn't seem to be any added intensity on the players' side, and half the crowd in St. Louis is Cubs fans anyway.
CWSGuy406
I can honestly say I was a Cardinal fan before my Sox alliance. I remember going to a Cubs/Cards game, and this guy behind me gave me his Cardinal hat. It was so cool. Plus - for two years in a row, Teeball and whatever is after teeball, I was on the Cardinals. The Cubs are in serious trouble if they don't pick off a true leadoff man before the deadline. Right now, they really don't have a true leadoff man. Grudz and Walker and Patterson are all nice players, but not really leadoff men. Of course, their pitching will win them a lot of games - but I dunno about their lineup. Really, really streaky. Gene Honda Civic
Here's a question: Corey-I'm-a-power-hitter-Patterson is batting 3rd today. WHY????? Why even let this guy sniff the 3rd spot... His biggest assett to that team is his speed, which he chooses not to showcase... If I'm dusty I hit him 1,2,or 7,8 until he learns how to hit there... He needs to learn how if they want to do anything in the postseason... Even letting him think he can hit 3 right now is just reinforcing his belief that he is a power hitter. It's like giving into a little kid who's trowing a tantrum, just to avoid a scene... You teach him to throw more tantrums... Well now CP is going to think he should hit #3 in game 7 of the NLCS. Spiff
These Cardinals remind me of the 2000 White Sox. Ridiculous lineup that can out-slug anyone, pitching staff that has overachieved tremendously considering it involves a bunch of has-beens. Not to mention they have a horseshoe up their ass. I think they'll hold on to the division, but we'll see come playoff time. Also, speaking of Patterson, why don't guys like him learn to shorten their swing? Is it really that difficult? If I were him, or another guy like him (ie: Jose Valentin) with a huge, wild swing I might be influenced by the guys who make perennial all-star appearances. Guys like Bonds, Rolen, Jeter, and even the guys playing on each side of Patterson, have short compact swings and good bat speed and seem to make out fine. Granted not everyone has biceps like Bonds and Sosa (however they came about), so they might not get the same power, but it seems like getting the bat on the ball is half the battle. I dunno I guess that is my mini-rant for the day. Maybe I'm missin something.

The Critic
The Cub fans' "it's early" talk is eerily familiar.... ...I seem to recall a certain manager of a certain South Side baseball team repeatedly telling anyone who'd listen how EARLY it still was every year.... Didn't work out then, and it's looking more and more like it won't work out now either. Although the Wild Card gives them hope.

They were 2 games out of first at the time, two games ahead of third... The best the cubs can be after today is in second, .5 games up on third. 8 games out of first.
