WSoxShuf
Our offense is s*** right now. Yes, I know Maggs is gone, but will Maggs ever come back??? and which Maggs will show up, the I love the Sox maggs, or pay me 17 million or else maggs. Nomar, Finley,Sweeney,Randa someone please. I cannot stand this Perez/Rowand experiment.
ZoomSlowik
Nomar can blow me. Most overrated player in the league. He's basically an overpaid Valentin that won't outperform him anywhere except in batting average. Clearly not worth $15 mil or any valuable pieces. Sweeney is staying in KC, the other guys aren't real answers. Maggs is. Magglio "Pay Me" Ordonez can make a huge impact in the lineup for the rest of the year, no matter how pissed off he is. If we add anything it should be a solid arm in the pen, or, if we can get one, a dominant starter. Not a whole lot of those available, basically just the prayer that Johnson will come here. BrandoFan
No, this team needs what they so often did not have in 2002 and 2003: leadership in big games. Thomas, Ordonez, Konerko, Lee and Valentin have to start earning their salaries and THEN some. I tired of seeing them try to uppercut-pull an outside strike or missing a get-me-over-fastball because their greedy stride was just a hair too long....They are constantly down in the count because of it and it pisses me off. Rowand, Uribe, Willie, Alomar, Timo and Crede will come around when they see the big-boppers leading by (unselfish) example and thus take some pressure to perform over their abilities off of them. That is how it worked in the triumphant April and June 2000. Fordyce, Perry, Singleton performed well when Durham, Valentin, Thomas, Ordonez, Konerko and Lee were terrorizing the pitchers in that 1st half. The team was feeding off each other. When the big guys occasionally went cold, the little guys became heroes for the day. But only for the day - if you expect your Credes and Fordyces and Timos and Gloads and Alomars and Willies and Perrys to single-handedly pull the team out of slumps time and time again, you're as good as dead against quality teams like the Cubs, Angels, Yankees, Red Sox, etc. What I am saying is........When it comes to our big-money, big-name players......No more excuses, no more skyward looks of frustration or slammed bats. Get the job done or get the f*** out of town.

kapkomet
Struggle? Go on a losing streak much more then this and I'll come up with another word. They have to shake this and get some momentum into the ASG break. I'll leave it at that.
YASNY
The one guy I've said we need, over and over, also is the type of guy you can count on to be a leader. Steve Finley. Brando said we need leadership on the field, and I totally agree with him. Finley is one guy that knows how to win. And on that level, I'd even take Robbie Alomar back for that very reason. kapkomet
Agreed, leadership is what pulls you through these tough times. Not managerial leadership, leadership of the players to hold each other up and accountable.

I wish you'd concentrate on this part of my post instead: When it comes to our big-money, big-name players......No more excuses, no more skyward looks of frustration or slammed bats. Get the job done or get the f*** out of town. After 2002-2003, they're way past the point of "due" as far as I am concerned We've been talking about Finley since like May, good trade idea for sure. BUT..... This is where Garcia, Buehle, Loaiza, Thomas, Ordonez, Konerko, Lee, Valentin and even Garland have to ONCE AND FOR ALL decide whether they are gonna be big-time winners or merely talented losers they were most of their professional lives, esp in 2002-2003 - 2000 playoffs, too IIRC. This is another point I've always held as self-evident and didn't mention before. Even if the Sox were to get Randy Johnson and Steve Finley......If the rest of the core players, the "stars" of the team lay down under tremendeous pressure as they pretty much have done at various decisive points of 2002 and 2003 seasons.....Then Unit and Finley by themseleves might not be enough. I don't want to know why our Front 3 is getting bombed every other outing lately. I don't want to know why our 3-4-5-6 is getting jammed on mediocre pitches so much and can't handle a good RHP, especially in front of the national TV audience, to save their f***ing lives. JR is doing his part for a change - slowly but surely opening up the purse. But unless the players perform at near 100% of their ability (something they haven't done the last 2 years), increases in payroll won't matter that much - there will be no World Series without great intensity and sacrifice. Period. My patience with the current core runs out with 2004. Fail to make postseason and you're as good as dead to me. Bring on the new blood. BrandoFan
Btw......I'd take Robbie back, too. I figure one of Willie/Uribe will get his s*** together before long, and Robbie can seriously challenge the one who doesn't. Hell, Joe Crede should feel the heat because his swing is as long and slow as it's ever been. In the playoffs, that spells O-fer.

EvilJester99
Hell maybe the Sox should bring Borchard up and have him play RF. He has to be better than Gload and Timo. Borchard also has some power. Why not give him a shot until the ASB?
Rowand44
Is anyone else going to mention that for 4 out of these 6 games that the sox offense has been dead their two best hitters have not been playing. I know the offense shouldn't be this bad no matter what but the point remains with out Frank and Magglio in the lineup it's going to be hard to score some runs. I would not mind Steve Finley either but another starter and bullpen help are still bigger needs then another bat. The sox are playing like s*** right now but the sky is not falling, this team we'll be fine and back in first place very soon.
Yoda
The Sox need to start hitting, no s*** about that. To me the lead off hitters should either be Willie, Uribe, or Timo. It seemed like Perez always led off with a single or double in Minnesota. Once Uribe came, he either hit a single to right field (or hit a HR) and Timo would score a run at home base. Now you don’t see that anymore. It seems like the only players that are trying are Rowand and Konerko. Out of all 9, only both of them are ready to play some ball. If these guys are tired of playing so damn much, than they should just tell the fans because I wouldn’t be so surprised if the seats were empty if this losing streak doesn’t end.
