JoshPR
Al through a freak Injury in spring training to 3rd baseman Robin Ventura and bad decisions by Management the Sox managed to stay in contention for most of the season, but on July 31st and with the Sox only 3.5 games behind owner Jerry Reinsdorf made a major trade with San Francisco saying no one would catch Cleveland and the Sox finished second (80-81) in the AL central 6 games behind the leader Cleveland Indians. Frank Thomas led the league in hitting with a .347 average hitting 35 homers and driving in 125 runs. Free agent Acquisition Albert Belle (.274) hit 30 homers and had 116 RBI’s but no other hitter had over 55 RBI’s. Designated Hitter Harold Baines hit .302 but was shipped off to Baltimore in another trade. Lead off hitter Tony Phillips (.310) was traded even sooner to Anaheim. Second Baseman Ray Durham (.271) had 33 steals and rookie center fielder Mike Cameron (.259) had 23. Dave Martinez continued his solid play off the bench with a .285 Average. Doug Drabeck was signed as a free agent and went 12-11 but with a high ERA of 5.74, Another Free Agent Pick-Up Jaime Navarro flopped and went 9-14. James Baldwin struggled too with a 5.25 ERA but finished 12-15. Lefty Wilson Alvarez (9-8), Veteran Danny Darwin (4-8) and Closer Roberto Hernandez (27 saves) were part of the mentioned trade that brought a package of young players to the Sox. Matt Karchner took over the closer role and had 15 saves. After the Season Manager Terry Bevington was fired and Replaced by Jerry Manuel

cwsox
Another Free Agent Pick-Up Jaime Navarro flopped and went 9-14. we signed Navarro over Clemens because our GM thought Clemens was "washed up" and Navarro offered more. Which is why I am never to be invited at any party honoring him.... it will just het nasty same GM hired Bevington - and no, no "boo" to JM, within three seasons JM gave us a division champ with a walking wounded pitching staff - it became time for JM to go, but there was good in his tenure and I will salute that

cwsox
Anybody remember the time Bevington went for a pitching change and no one was warming up?? LOL!!! that was a better moment - what I remember as his most typical moment when there was a close play and the umpire called it and Bevington went ou and screamed at the ump to reverse the call and the ump did - which made it then go against the Sox yes, Bevington argued a call that was in our favor -
