hammerhead johnson
The collection also includes previously unknown versions of new recordings of "We Can Work It Out" and "Cry Baby Cry." There's a partial 45 second acoustic version that I have of "We Can Work It Out". The liner notes state that Lennon recorded over it. They might be talking about the full version here, or perhaps a different acoustic take. In any case, I look forward to hearing it within the next two years. It usually takes a year or two for someone to put it out on bootleg.

One of my best friends and I did a Top 64 Beatles songs of all time (64 seemed like an appropriate number). You don't have to go 64 songs (unless you are crazy like us) but I would be curious to see peoples top Beatles songs.
FlaSoxxJim
Beatles Sshmeatles... blah, blah, blah... Sorry, with PA out of the loop, someone had to provide his take on the greatest band ever. Cool find indeed. Mal's story is just so surreal, especially the way he was killed. It's always eerie to see footage like the let it Be stuff where he's just an ordinary guy, and to think about how his life would end a few years later. The 4.5 hours of new tape will be cool and all the other memorabilia is an awesome find for somebody, but I'll mostly be really interested in seeing if this stuff can really be traced back to Mal. Sure sounds like it with a Get back/Abbey Road vintage ascribed to the tape.

Corkinator
It's good to be back after a long layoff (lost custody of my computer in an ugly divorce) and find a Beatles thread! hammerhead johnson
A bit slanted towards Lennon, I'll admit, but what the heck. Yeah, me too. 13 of my top 15 feature Lennon vocals. Harrison is my favorite Beatle, though. Mostly for reasons aside from the music itself.

I'm about 2/3 of the way through. Heck Yeah I will. I have a question for you. Do you know of any early recordings of One After 909? Like, from back when they wrote it? I go to thinking about it the other day and I don't think I ever heard any early unreleased versions of that. I'll have to dig out what I have to be sure. hammerhead johnson
I have a question for you. Do you know of any early recordings of One After 909? Like, from back when they wrote it? I go to thinking about it the other day and I don't think I ever heard any early unreleased versions of that. I'll have to dig out what I have to be sure. Here are the bootlegzone comments on the tracks that I have: One After 909 1:28 (1960) The earliest known version of a song that turns up many times throughout the Beatles career. Along with a slightly later 1960 version, there are two versions from the 1962 Cavern rehearsal tapes, several takes from the March 1963 EMI session and numerous versions from the 1969 Get Back sessions. It's interesting to trace the development of this song to discover that after trying several different arrangements the Beatles would eventually return to the same feel and approach that they use on this acoustic version when they finally issued the song on Let It Be in 1970. One After 909 2:25 (1960) Here's an electric version of "The One After 909" that was probably recorded sometime after the 1:28 version. Another enlightening glimpse at the development of this enduring Lennon/McCartney composition. One After 909 3:20 (1962) Rehearsal take 1 of 2. Recorded at The Cavern, Liverpool. Ringo has confirmed he's drumming. In the circumstances this probably places the recording between Aug, when Ringo joined the band, and mid Dec 1962. FlaSoxxJim
Cool beanz, thanks for the info. I think I have one of the '63 EMI takes on the BEEB vinyl radio show set if there is one on there (I have yet to buy the Official CD release and need to fix that). I'm pretty sure i haven't heard any of the earlier recordings. I have a nice version of Paul and Elvis Costello doing it that came from some live deal somewhere.
