DBAHO
Jose Valentin hitting a homer in the 9th against the A's at Oakland. I think he had 3 K's before then, and everyone thought he was going for a 4th, no-one saw it coming.

sox-r-us
I am shocked no one (including the two biggest El Caballo fans) here has mentioned this one but what the heck The biggest play of the first half is Carlos Lee's 28th consecutive game hit ... record setting That hitting streak improved Carlos' average from 0.230ish to 0.300ish and despite not having Maggs for quite a bit of time, Carlos helped us stay afloat with that streak

Elcaballo45
I thought it is suppose to be be just one play not 28 games worth. That is one play, The 28th consecutive game hit in the 9th inning against the Marlins which sets the new franchise record for hitting streaks. That is disregarding all of the other 27 hits in that streak.

dasox24
I've got two that tie as Play of the Year. One being the Carlos catch when he robbed Ibanez, and the other being Timo toying w/ Zambrano, resulting in Crede's HR.
Buehrle>Wood
I'll go with one of their rarest plays you'll ever see, the triple play. It was simply exciting and it kind of came from no where. All the plays everyone has mentioned so far has had some importance to it. I guess this one didn't, seeing how we lost the game.
valponick
He is also the meister of the 3-run homer according to Hawk. MAESTRO. As in the master of an art.
YASNY
I submit two "plays". or more accurately, events. First, Ozzie's tirade in the last game of the Angels series that turned the tide from a losing streak to a winning streak. Second was Shingo's first save. The smile on his face was memorable in itself and seemed to signal to Sox fans that the Koch era really was over.

I agree, it's so rare to see that, everything has to go just right, so what if we still lost the game by 12? Without the Triple Play we probably would have lost by 15! We'll have guys make defensive plays or hit big homers every year, but a triple play only comes along once a decade maybe.
DABearSoX
Timo has been clutch this year....thats a great sign for a team that will hopefully be in the playoffs
Yoda
There’s really a lot of plays that will be remembered this year. Such as that Triple Play, but the Sox ended up losing that game If I were to choose which is my favorite play I would have to say Shingo’s first save here in the States. I attended the game (I believe it was the Braves vs. Sox). Everyone was able to see what a big smile Shingo put on once he got the save
OSUBUCKS2
in my opinion, one of the biggest plays of the year came early in the season when koch was pitching. Uribe Harris and Konerko turned a hell of a double play that gave them the W. Without harris' quick turn, the tying run would have scored. Thats featured in one of the sox commercials

Thats featured in one of the sox commercials that was against the yankees, and marte was pitching. I was at that game, that goes down as my play of the year.......the tying run would have scored if they didn't turn it and it was one hell of a difficult play too. I remember jumping out of my seat and almost breaking the seat in front of me.
chisoxfan79
I will have to go with Timo's three run single last Thursday as my 1st half play of the year because to get three runs off of the best setup man in baseball is something that does not happen often. It could be the game that everybody looks at the end of the year and says this is the game that turned it around.
Al Lopez Ghost (old)
Biggest play of the year so far? KW dumping Koch. But seriously Timo gets the call - for the 9th inning homer against Florida, the 8th inning single against the Angels and the homer off of Maddux. He's Timo, and he keeps on ticking.
