southsider2k5
What part of .245 and 22 RBI makes you want Olerud? The gold glove defense and playoff experience that no one else on our roster has...
YASNY
The gold glove defense and playoff experience that no one else on our roster has... That's why we need Finley .... but Finley can still hit. I've always like Olerud, but he is reminding of Robbie Alomar with his decline. Gold glove defense and playoff experience. That reminds me of Robbie also. witesoxfan
The gold glove defense and playoff experience that no one else on our roster has... Freddy Garcia was there in 2000 and 2001. Esteban made it in 99 with Texas, and made a start against the Yanks(and it was a good start too...7 IP, 3 ER, 5 H, 1 BB, 4 K's, though he got the loss) Shingo never gave up a run in the Japanese playoffs(given, that is Japan, but they are similar). Mike Jackson has been there a few times(though I would prefer he not be on the roster). Timo was a huge part of the 2000 Mets getting to the Series. And Valentin, CLee, Maggs, Konerko, and Thomas(if he comes back) have been there too, in 2000 and, in Thomas's case, 93 too. We definately have playoff experience. I can't find the gold glove part for you though.
southsideirish
Is a gold glove first baseman really a necessity? I mean come on now. Would you rather have a Doug Mankeuahfusiahgiahatz playing first base for your team or a Frank Thomas? Give me a Frank Thomas any day of the week and twice on Sundays. Funny you should mention Mansgayb**** as they just sent him to the DL.
southsideirish
Funny you should mention Mansgayb**** as they just sent him to the DL. WOOHOO!!! I know I shouldn't cheer injuries, but I can't stand that guy. Really, it couldn't happen to a better person. Then again this only gives them a reason to play a better player at first, Justin Morneau.
Clarkdog
Not sure if anyone saw this but the decision on Thomas's ankle (surgery or no) could be coming today. That will likely dictate which direction KW goes in making a move. From today's Sun-Times: DECISION NEAR: An MRI exam of Thomas' injured left ankle was done in Las Vegas earlier this week, and a decision on whether he needs surgery could come as early as today. ''Obviously, the last call or the last guy who will make the decision is the Chicago doctor,'' manager Ozzie Guillen said. Thomas, who is on the disabled list, lives in Las Vegas and returned home as early as Sunday. He is not with the team in Oakland. Guillen said the Sox should get through Thomas' injury just fine because they are used to covering a big hole in the lineup. ''I think, obviously, when you miss one of your best hitters in the lineup, it makes it tougher,'' he said. ''We went through it without Magglio, and I think we'll get it done without Frank. I think when you miss one of your hitters, it's time for another guy to step up and do it.'' My gut is they are preparing to go without him. greg775
Olerud is a lefty bat and maybe he's not finished yet. That's why I want him with his anemic stats from the first half. He could be finished, but we'll have to pick him up to find out.

YASNY
Are you saying last yr was all Robbies' fault? Not at all. I'm just saying that Robbie didn't produce much when he was here, though there were theories on why he just might (ex: return to AL, teamed with Sandy, etc). The similarities between the two is what I was pointing out, not placing blame. Declining offensive numbers. Gold glove defense. Playoff experience. You can say those things about either 2003 Robbie Alomar or 2004 John Olerud.
