George Romero To Direct Land of the Dead

July 15, 2004 — George Romero will direct Land of the Dead, a horror film that picks up on the zombie saga he hatched with "Night of the Living Dead" and continued with "Dawn of the Dead" and "Day of the Dead".

The script was written by Romero, and production will take place in either Winnepeg or Pittsburgh (please shoot it in the Burgh), where the original three films were shot.

In the film, zombies having taken over the world and those left alive are confined to a walled-in city that keeps out the corpse corps. Anarchy rules the streets, with the wealthy insulated and living in fortified skyscrapers.

I don’t know if anyone has ever seen the Living Dead films, but they are easily one of the best horror movies IMO :headbang

The old ones were great.  The remake from a few months back sucked ass though.

I never really got the chance to see the re-make of Dawn of the Dead, but have seen the re-make of Night of the Living Dead. I’ll take the original ones any day.

I have seen the one when there  underground in that big bunker, and there is that one zombie that they have chained up. Its 80's. Which one is that??

That one is Day of the Dead.

I was personally hoping he would have dropped the other showe and made "Day Off of the Dead" (where Death takes a Holiday and all that), but this one sounds pretty darn good as far as the Romero zombie flicks are concerned.

Heck, Dawn is my fave film, and the one that was largely responsible for my addiction to Horror films. Oddly though it was the brilliant character development that made me love it so much, not the over-the-top gore. But I have to admit that I loved the remake, but for all the opposite reasons that I loved the original. I love the pure lack of character in the remake, and the fact that it was more of an Italian style Zombie flick than anything else, and the fact that it has the tip of the hat to Cannibal Holocaust in the end. I also loved that this time out I didn't care if any of the characters got munched.

I looked at the remake not so much as a remake, but just as another story of another group of people from the same time that the other film was happening. Odd way of thinking maybe, but it helped me enjoy a movie that should have pissed me off.

If you hated the remake, but loved the originals, you should atleast love the remake for the simple fact that it was that film that helped Romero get the final chapter greenlit. He's been trying to get this thing off the ground for years now. Plus hopefully somebody will give him the budget and time he wanted for Day Of The Dead, but was denied, thereby having to make a version that was half of the original idea.

And for those fans of the original Dawn Of The Dead:

THE ULTIMATE DAWN ON DVD!!!
