Hsc, unless u can prove Miles is better than Harris and Jimenez than I don't think he will make the 25-man roster.
whitesox247
Miles is proving that right now in ST. Hes hitting over .400 im sure, while Jimenez is fumbling with the ball.

mac9001
Since the Sox's will only carry 11 pitchers, they'll be 5 bench spots. With Josh Paul most likely being one of them

That is sad, but true I thought I remember hearing somewhere that JM was gonna have JP work out in the OF for a few ST games this year. Anyone else hear about this? Has JP played any games for a time in the OF this ST?
supernuke
Paul should not make this team. A third catcher is a waste of a bench spot. I hope that team management will realize this.

Exactly, we do not NEED a third catcher. A veteran and a rookie are enough to keep us going. Hopefully, its gonna be Rios, Graffanino, Daubach, Alomar, and Harris/Miles. An extra infielder is alot more useful than a catcher thats gonna catch probably once every two weeks.

Put Paul on waivers and send him down, if he gets claimed so be it. If Alomar goes on the Dl for an extended period of time we will have to make a trade anyway. I know I would not want to see Paul as the regular backup,he sucks defensively and doesn't have much of a bat either.

JP is not needed and there is no need to carry an extra player in case Alomar gets hurt. IF he does, they'll call someone up, most likely JP because I don't think he will be claimed. Anyone claiming him would have to put him on their 25-man roster. Plus, even if someone claims him, so what..... If Burke or Morales aren't good enough, there are a dozen veteran catchers in AAA every year that have Big League experience. A trade for a backup catcher is not expensive. Lastly, keep in mind that the likelihood of Sandy getting hurt is lessened because he will play less. He is not going to be the everyday guy so injuries should be much less frequent. The only problem with this scenario is if Miguel is overmatched and isn't ready for Chicago. I know he is not hitting well right now, but unless he is just terrible, I believe the other things he does will allow them to give him the chance to grow in Chicago rather than Charlotte. Rex Hudler
We'll see how it all plays out. What I don't understand is why Miguel only has 11 at bats so far (with 3 on Sunday). I would expect that number to climb quickly. Everything I have heard is that Miguel is still their guy. I can see them easing him into the starting role, but I don't see Sandy as being the # 1 option for long unless Miguel is just overmatched. At this point, with only 11 AB's there is not a large enough sample to know if that is the case.

It could be Olivo with the bench spot...Alomar might start if he's healthy and Olivo doesn't show Manuel enough. But yeah, having a 3rd catcher would be a waste of a bench spot for sure...it's not even like he's a good pinch hitter or anything...it's not worth it. Chisoxfn
Alomar will be the opening day catcher, but after that everything I've read and heard says Olivo will be the one getting the bulk of the action. THey will start him slowly though. He looked lost at the plate the game I saw him play. Now that the other catchers are getting sent down, I'd like for Olivo to get a whole lot more at bats. SI1020
I have not heard anything about RIOS all ST, I do not know if that is good or bad. That would be Armando Rios right? He was a major disppointment with the Pirates. He was expected to provide some power and give the team 350-400 Abs. Instead he hurt his knee and IIRC barely hit his weight. He showed very limited range in the OF too. What is it with Chi teams taking all these Pgh rejects lately?
cwsox
Trade for a catcher. WE HAVE THE MONEY! who? and for what? I think what we have, our three catchers, is as good as there is out there and available. This is not the golden age of catchers.
