Loaiza21
With a possible loss of Magglio in 2005, we can still have a great lineup if Everett stays and Frank comes back healthy. Everett has a 2005 option, which should be exercised, it's only around $5 M. He could play RF for us and we'd still have an outfield of Lee-Rowand-Everett and Thomas at DH. If we can keep Carl, and we lose Magglio, this team will be OK. If Maggs stays, who knows what will happen with Everett? But hey we'd have Magglio. It's a good thing that Carl has that option. Al Lopez Ghost (old)
You will notice a difference defensively between Magglio and Carl.
baggio202
i like carl everett..at one point in his career he was on track to becoming a superstar...but at this point in his career he is a role player at best imo...he has always been a good situational hitter and thats a real positive for this team...but i dont know if he could ever be more than a 20 homer 275 type hitter again...and defensively watching him in LF in that montreal series was painful...i couldnt believe that was the same carl everett i saw a few years ago playing CF for boston where he ran down a shot in the gap off maggs bat that i thought was to the wall for sure...injuries really have seemed to slow him down.. i think if carl everett returs o the sox next year it might be to replace frank thomas as a DH ( i hope im wrong about this ) ..i dont see everett and thomas both on the sox next year though..one DH is enough
knightni
The only key in 2005 Everett is or has is to a 1952 Edsel.

qwerty
And offensively. True, but then we will have 9 or 10 million dollars to help fill some holes.
BobDylan
True, but then we will have 9 or 10 million dollars to help fill some holes. True, but in my opinion, the White Sox holes will be more than 10 mil if Magglio leaves.
Whitewashed in '05
Everyone is so sure that Maggs wont be back next year and there are good reasons why but I just have this feeling that this won't be Maggs last season in a Sox uni. I am confident that KW and Maggs can come to a deal, especially if we get far into the playoffs.
Kalapse
Please don't try to compare Carl with Magglio. I think we've all forgotten just how good Magglio is.

SoxAce
Comparing Carl to Maggs is like comparing Ben Davis to Johnny Bench. Ouch! That's desrespectful to Carl.. I would say it's like comparing M. Loretta to R. Alomar (both in their primes) Both have talent but one is just solid while the other is a superstar/has superstar talent. Loaiza21
Like that was the intention. I just said that he's a nice cheap replacement. THAT WE CAN AFFORD.
witesoxfan
You can't compare Everett and Maggs...I don't think anyone is doing that. But to say that replacing Maggs with $10 mill extra along with Everett is just down right goofy. Maggs is a good hitter, but .310 35 120 .900 is replaceable with $10 mill(or more if Lee or Konerko is traded).
SuperSteve
I am sorry, but I personally think some people are overvaluing Magglio. It is not how many All-Stars you have, it is how many solid players you have. I'd rather not overpay for Maggs. I won't compare the two, but I'd perfer the Everett plus cash, over Magglio. Saying the $10 million can't help replace our holes. How about getting some bullpen help, and another starter. Also, could potentially pick up a second basemen, or a SS if Jose leaves. A catcher could be in the works too. I really think everyone here overvalues Maggs.

You're kidding right? You think Everett can produce anything like Magglio does. He's not even close to as good as magglio. Power, Average, Fielding, Speed, Arm, Magglio is better than Everett in each.

Not a lot of guys are going to replace what Maggs leaves, but Carl would be a nice replacement. He'd also make about 10 million less than Maggs, money that can be used on pitching (Carl Pavano! Deep pink, maybe?). I'll tell you this, for sure: Pavano + Everett > Magglio Ordonez.

I'm not sold on Carl Pavano, this is his first good year and he has been around for a while, I know he played for Montreal at the beginning of his career but he didn't do much there. Just like you wouldn't take Ben Sheets or Josh Beckett either, huh? I mean, this is only Sheets first year of real good success, and Beckett has never put together a great full year. rolleyeyes.gif However, I think some of that $10 mill did go to Garcia. Is Garcia + Everett > Maggs? I think so...some may not.
