southsideirish
Getting Garcia was a good move - it's just that I think the Sox overpaid for him. I've said all along that if the Sox go to the WS, this deal was worth it. But if they don't, I think Seattle got a much better deal. Nobody knows what alternatives KW had so you can only evaluate the deal that was done. Really? Give me a proven Freddy Garcia for the next three years over hyped up prospects such as Reed/Olivo/Morse every single day of the week and twice on Sundays. We overhype our prospects more than any other team in the majors besides maybe the Yanks and Red Sox.

Well.. your right about Freedy being proven, but I wouldn't say Reed, Olivo, and Morse were "overhyped". Reed isn't as hyped as Borchard is in our system. Reed wasn't even known till he hit .400 in AA (which is insane) Now he was listed as our #1 prospect and is having a medocre year in AAA with bad wrist. Olivo will be good in 3-4 years and should be up there with Mauer and V. Martinez as one of the best young catchers in the game. Morse is really just a wait and see project considering he is a very big SS with good upside but I don't think he'll be a big loss. But Freddy has nasty stuff and is only 27 years old. I'll take that to build around like you said. Agreed. We overhype our prospects more than any other team in the majors besides maybe the Yanks and Red Sox. Take the sox out of that list and add Oakland. Beane overhypes his prospects more than anyone in baseball IMO.
