Queen Prawn
OK.. a lot more than 90 million then since it's likely that most of those redneck fans don't have the scratch to travel to the races. Like this one!

southsideirish
Please I highly doubt there are 90 million NASCAR fans. That is ridiculous.
southsideirish
Organized racing actually started on the beaches down in Florida. Wouldn't FLA be considered southern? Just wondering.
Confederate_48
Whoever said you can be a 300 pound slob and drive a Nascar your an idiot. The only fat guy in Nascar is Jimmy Spencer and he sucks because of it. Those guys train all week to be in shape to drive the car so i dont see how they can be fat slobs and do it. What kind of shape do you need to be in? Don't equate endurance with athletic ability!!!
Queen Prawn
What kind of shape do you need to be in? Don't equate endurance with athletic ability!!! To have endurance, you really need to be in shape. You are enduring as much as 140F temps in those cars while clad in heat resistant suits and a large helmet.

Just because you are in shape does not mean you are an athlete or any more of an athlete than an out of shape person. Just because you are a 300 lbs slob does not mean you are any less of an athlete than a person that is in shape. I don't understand what being in shape and being an athlete has to do with anything. Will an athlete that works out and get into shape be better at their particular sport? Yes! However, being in or out of shape does not make one more or less of an athlete. Confederate_48
Everyones trying to make it seem like its so easy. People are comparing it to driving in their own cars.
Queen Prawn
Southsideirish, why are you taking it so personally that there are at least three people here (steff, mreye and myself) that whole-heartedly disagree with you? I don't care that you don't think the drivers are athletes, but your shorts seem to be in a bunch over the fact that the three of us do. I really don't see a point in carrying this on, let's just agree to disagree.
southsider2k5
What kind of shape do you need to be in? Don't equate endurance with athletic ability!!! I would tend to think you would need to be in better shape to drive NASCAR than to play baseball. Look at guys like Ponson, Colon, Sabathia, Kruk etc. Those guys are fat slobs. How many NASCAR drivers can you say that about?
Confederate_48
Its stupid we can argue it all day and noones opinion will change on it. These polls are just like asking who here is a Nascar fan and it starts all this up.

israel4ever
Yeah it doesnt take much to hold a car on the track with all those G forces for 4 hours. Let's say, for example, you are a motorcycle enthusiast. You ride from Chicago to Daytona Beach on your Harley, to attend bike week. The ride is anywhere from 1000-1200 miles. Are you an athlete because you can keep your bike on the road for 20-24 hours, while wearing your leathers and a helmet, in varying weather conditions? Nope. There are a whole bunch of people that do agree with me as well. I could care less who thinks it is a sport. If you don't want me to share my opinions about the subject then maybe you should cease sharing yours.

Confederate_48
It takes alot more to drive a Nascar then drive a motorcycle to Florida like your saying. I can easily drive a motorcycle to Florida right now but id never be able to last in a Nascar race in my current state. I dont have the physical capabilities to do it. Your trying again to compare normal every day types of driving to something totally different.
