Steff
It seemed to me that you thought Florida would not be considered a southern state. Why? I have no idea. That is what I thought and that is why I posted it as a question to you. Why are you getting so angry? Really.. what makes you think I don't know that Florida is a southern state..? Obviously there's a reason... care to share? Angry.. I'm not angry in the least. Just want to know why you apparently think I'd be unaware that Florida is a southern state. Confederate_48
"Overweight" guys like Oliver Miller (NBA) and/or Warren Sapp (NFL) can "run circles" around NASCAR drivers. Football and Basketball are not baseball! What do you mean they can run circles around them ??
southsideirish
Baseball is what I know best. It was an easy example to make. I could have used football or guys like Oliver Miller in basketball. The point is the you have to have these perfect specime type-athletes doing it to be considered a sport is absurd. Just because guys are small and skinny doesn't mean that they can't play a sport anymore than a 400 pound guy can't play a sport. Just because he is small and skinny and in shape doesnt mean he is an athlete either. Yes you can choose Oliver Miller or Shawn Kemp from the NBA. You can choose the guys you did in the MLB. I just think there are a lot more examples and easier to make examples of NFL players than any other sport. Look at most defensive and offensive lines. THere are tons to choose from. israel4ever
Actually you said there's more of a chance that CC could drive a NASCAR than Gordon could throw a fast ball... Why so? What the reason for the better chance to CC to excel in Jeff's job but not vice versa..? IMO...it takes a lot more athletic ability (and genetics) to be able to throw a 90+ fastball than it does to drive a NASCAR.

Some people classify FL as a southeastern state and don't lump it with the rest of the southern states. SOrry I offended you and it seems as though you are very angry at the moment. israel4ever
What do you mean they can run circles around them ?? Let's take Warren Sapp vs Jeff Gordon for example, and have them compete in a "decathlon" of athletic events against each other (their own sports NOT included). IMHO...Sapp would destroy Gordon. That is Exactly what I have been trying to say. You don't have to be an athlete to participate in a sport. Ergo the arguement that NASCAR drivers aren't athletes so NASCAR isn't a sport is garbage. SSI.. it's obvious you were just being a smart ass incinuating that I needed to be told that Florida is a southern state.. it's ok. And really.. I'm not mad one bit. No I was not trying to be a smartass. Some people have different classifications and group things differently. Some people group southern states differently than southeastern states. It is really hard to tell if someone is being a smart ass on a message board or through written word sometimes, but I was in no way trying to do that. Plus if you look back I didn't tell you anything. I questioned it.

southsider2k5
I'd bet that Sapp could beat Gordon in a 40 yard sprint, could jump higher, throw farther. 40 yard sprint isn't in the decathalon. The shortest distance is 100 meters. And I seriously doubt that Sapp would make it in anything under 15 sec. Jump higher maybe. But throwing events in the decathalon are definately strength events in the shot and discus, and should be won by Sapp.
southsideirish
I agree I bet Sapp beats him in the 40. I highly doubt Gordon has had to participate in those types of drills in a long time if ever.

southsideirish
I have a question for everyone here that loves NASCAR. If NASCAR is a sport then how come there is not one single high school or college NASCAR team? If it was truly a sport wouldn't there be such things? NASCAR to me is like watching a hamster run in his wheel.

Confederate_48
Your saying that Universities would not invest in a sport that draws 90 million people a year? Your not going to draw alot to a college Nascar race. Alot of people think of Nascar as the Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart type racing which is what draws most of it. There are many more smaller divisions of Nascar which is what the college people would have to do and that wouldnt draw as much. Not worth the money. I have been asking questions on this thread so maybe I can learn something about it.
israel4ever
A better comparison between Sapp and Gordon would have been a "Superstars" competition, not a decathlon.
