QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 01:23 PM)
Jim D. comes off as arrogant quite often. I like the guy kind of (is he a "short person, BTW?), but he pisses me off at other times and uses "band or style. I wrote to him once and mentioned my (at the time) fave band Marillion. He slammed them by saying that they hadn't done anything worthwhile since their original vocalist had left. When in reality the band had just recently put out their most "critically" and fan praised album in their careers and had just finished a very successful US tour. He can be rude with no reason at times.

The Stones though I am passing on. They are so far removed from what I believe RnR to being anymore. They may have once been the greatest (I will argue the case to a degree) RnR band ever, but they are no longer what it is about. They are a machine now and an act. I could never pay that much money for that. But for the fans who can afford it, I expect that the Stones deliver EXACTLY what the fans are hoping for. I can't imagine them actually being a disappointment to their fans.

slams" to cover up his lack of knowledge at times, instead of just admitting he is unfamiliar with a band"

A lot of people, not just critics do that about all art, not just music. They are either unfamilar with or don't understand it, so they take an extreme stance on it. They'll say they love it or hate it.

Good point KG.

I dont like Jim dregousntsi, but i like Greg Kott sometimes. I think his articles on scenes and stuff are interesting though i was absolutely shocked that he liked the billy corgan solo album...and i think he discards some bands a little too quickly. Plus their coverage of intonation was pretty subpar...seemingly unaware of every band.

i liked his oberst article...i have to admit.

And i like the flaming lips...The Soft BUlletin and transmissions from the satellite heart were great albums.

i find both dregousntosdifsd and Kott's hip hop coverage somewhat laughable at times. It seems the only good hip hop is coming from chicago...diverse, kanye, twista, common...and ignoring MF DOOM...edan, atmosphere, aesop rock, cannibal ox and such and such

I have to make an EXTREMELY HIGH recommendation on the new Neko Case - Fox Confessor Brings the Flood, I feel this album would be great for a lot of people in the SLP forum. Neko Case is a female singer/songwriter who sings with the New Pornographers and has one of the most distinct and in my opinion the best female voice in modern music...its really great, really really great

haha, i was just kidding, sometimes i'm embarrassed at how late it took me to get into things i knew i'd like...but its like getting an xbox right when it comes out or 4 months later...in a couple years you won't give a s*** when you got it. The people who brag about finding bands are ridiculous.

You'll need earlpugs, please do not go without. They are very loud, but not distorted, which is the beautiful thing about it. Some bands turn everything up as loud as they can with no balance or reason. I never saw MBV, by the way.

i'll bring ear plugs...but if i look like a nerd...oh boy...you are gonna hear about it.

i haven't seen MBV either...i've just heard they are notoriously loud...or...were rather.

broken social scene live always bugs me because they never get the vocals for the girls right.

Mascis' guitar sounds like a jet on take off.

Fans of the band have kind of a running joke with Lou where everyone yells out 'turn your bass down' between songs and Lou flips everyone off.  I guess when the band split up, they had a fight onstage over Lou's bass being too loud.

ooh, i want to be cool and do that...and then everyones gonna think i'm a jagoff...damnit. College town with high turnover...DAMN THAT...

feist was nice and looked right at me, and said "oh yeah?" course i was too drunk to remember what i said...i'm hoping it was interesting.

Haha, i have to remember to do this at Dino Jr. and not Built to spill haha...
