bmags
QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 07:20 PM) LOL, Joy Division and Interpol fans hate that comparison. I like JD and really like Interpol. that one doesn't get me as mad (when its used as a negative cause there obviously are similarities) when people say pavement ripped off the fall (WHich came from maybe three songs in their entire catalogue)

Right now i am way too into anything that Ken Andrews does. It is seriously becoming unhealthy. I might classify myself as a stalker if he keeps releasing albums. FlaSoxxJim
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 02:15 PM) My favorite song of theirs was on a single, "The Ballad of Michael Valentine". Ah, a Heinlein Stranger homage. Probably my favorite sci-fi work ever.

Kyyle23
QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 03:04 PM) Ah, a Heinlein Stranger homage. Probably my favorite sci-fi work ever. Hmmm, didnt know about that. the whole song he is singing about a massive roadtrip he went on with a friend named Michael Valentine. here are the lyrics, you tell me if he is paying homage. Michael plays with stars Soul Sister won't you take a ride in his car Late to call When you wanted to be all Baby-baby don't be so shy Rock children hold your heads up high In the night while I try And tell the ballad of Valentine You got it bad, but you know it's true I caught up with a friend in Dallas We took a trip to New Orleans Those black-eyed ladies Won't say they're sorry We finally caught a train to Memphis Where everybody talks the same Those blue suede babies All know my name And I said hold tight Can't you see that it's hurting me But I've got the buzz Like Marlon Brando Michael Valentine, can't we unite? We ended up in North Dakota Although my heart's in Mexico (spanish language) My munecita Abren Tus Ojos With your new suit, and your black tie Hold on, you're just a gambling man, all proper like I broke to the right and I caught your eye Shut your mouth and wave goodbye Tonight, I ain't gonna let you rain on this parade And I said hold tight Can't you see that it's hurting me But I've got the buzz Like Marlon Brando Straight faced with misery tonight And I will not lie when I say I ain't cold no more But I've got the buzz Like Greta Garbo Walking forward to the sun And I've got a cold tale left to write Well uh oh I know he's gonna be there tonight
FlaSoxxJim
Eh, maybe not, although the lines about playing with stars and uniting seem like they could be obscure Valentine Michael Smith/SISL references.

Well, the Killers are a Vegas band. He could be writing obscure references, or talking about being in Vegas and seeing stars. Who knows. Anywho, I really like that song
Kyyle23
On the subject of singers sounding alike, has anyone noticed that the band Muse sounds like a rocked out Radiohead? Their lead singers have identical voices.
LosMediasBlancas
Speaking of The Killers, the Cure, The Smiths.... etc, does anyone like The Dears? Their last record has grown on me slowly, but in a very big way. It's kind of Morrissey-esque, with slight hints of jazz and trip hop. Anyone? They are starting to develop the oddness of Radiohead though, thats for sure. I still love the song "Hysteria", I think the opening bass/guitar riff is killer. Spiff
1) I read an article in AP about Ian Curtis's last days a few months ago. Really chilling stuff, comments from the band about how they didn't have any idea what was going on with him. I don't care if Joy Division/New Order gets a ton of pub, they spawned a whole (latent) generation of imitators. 2) Pelican - The fire in our throats will beckon the thaw = awesome album.
