Cali
Just got back from seeing Joshua Radin, man he is just one talented motherf***er. It's totally not the music you think I'd listen to being the Metal head that I am, but this guy is great. I first heard him on an episode of "Scrubs", and had to get his EP. He's since had another song on that show which was just as good. http://www.joshuaradin.com/ If you click on the listen to some music section it has the 2 songs that we're on Scrubs, "Winter" and "Closer"
bmags
I'm really in love with the new animal collective - feels...if it wasn't for Illinoise it would be my album of the year..

Ya I 'acquired' that one a while back, listened to it a few times and apparently forgot about it. Thanks for the reminder. I live the title track on the CD. Kyyle23
After much thought, I have decided that the Mayor of New Orleans, Ray Nagin, is actually the lead guitarist for Audioslave, formerly Rage Against the Machine, Tom Morello. Nagin Morello This case is now closed. You can go back to your regular complaining about modern day music.

LosMediasBlancas
Can someone please describe what 'The New Pornographers' sound like? I don't want to make the mistake I made with Sigur Ros. By the way, where do you guys go to for trustworthy reviews?...besides word of mouth?

I don't want to make the mistake I made with Sigur Ros. By the way, where do you guys go to for trustworthy reviews?...besides word of mouth? i'm a closet pitchfork reader...i disagree with much bad reviews...but when they give an album an 8.0 or better, it usually really does mean its great... The New Pornographers are basically pop perfection...good indie rock pop...very clean...i'm struggling to think of a parallel band at the moment... The Critic
QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 10:43 AM) Thx man. Note to self: stay away from this record. Agreed. I've heard a couple songs from the New Pornographers on Q101 Indie Night and they did nothing for me at all. I'm currently digging a band called The Generators. They have kind of a Social Distortion vibe to them, except for a couple ska-influenced songs that I don't like half as much as the harder-edged songs. Favorite song by them is called "Thirty Seconds".

Also, Nagin has just a smidge of Paul Mooney to him, if you squint real hard and tilt your head slightly to the right.

The Critic
QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 11:46 AM) when is Indie Night on and what time?...and is it really good, obscure Indie, or the soon to be on MTV 'indie'? Sunday nights from 9pm til midnight: Crash Test Radio - 9 til 10 TBA - 10 til 11 Local 101 - 11 til midnight It's a pretty nice mix of stuff you may have heard of, stuff you probably haven't, acousitc versions of fairly popular indie songs, mashups, weird covers, etc. Crash Test is mostly dedicated to "up and coming" bands, and they usually have a short interview segment. TBA is dedicated primarily to bands who have upcoming shows in the area. Local 101 is dedicated to...............uhhhh.................local bands. It's also the one show that will skew a little harder, with local slop-rock and metal bands included in the mix. All three shows are really good and they REALLY help get me through my Sunday overnight work shift. I highly recommend the shows.
