Flash Tizzle
Could anyone help me identify a particular Pink Floyd song? I heard it nearly a week ago and have yet to locate it browsing the internet. Any suggestions will be appreciated. I've gone through several albums available on cdnow with no such luck. Best description I could give is it sounded similar to "Run Like Hell." Similar flow to the lyrics. When I heard it on the radio I thought it was a live version of the song. It was only when the instrumentals played where the distinction was noticeable. And the Instrumentals weren't composed of synthesizers, but guitars. I'm familar with nearly all their popular material, so I'm guessing the song is post-wall. Hope these general guidelines narrow the field down a bit. DBAHO
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 02:45 AM) The Shins Yeah I've listened to quite a bit of them too ever since Garden State came out. Song I am listening to the most ATM is Where Eagles Have Been by Wolfmother, I know Kid Gleason's a big fan of theirs. There's an excellent guitar riff at the end for about a minute. Definitely worth a listen.

The Critic
QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 09:41 AM) Anyone going to Lolla? I'm not, but if you are going and need a break from the musical mush , my buddy's improv group is playing the Mindfield stage on Friday at 6:00 pm. They're called Schadenfreude, and they're pretty good, actually.

jenksd
QUOTE(bmags @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 03:59 PM) The Mountain Goats - I really enjoyed how the mountain goats/danielle realized that at a festival when people are hot and miserable, that you gotta play upbeat...i mean "play the hits". By FAR the best set list next to Os Mutantes of the bunch. Ended with terror song, started with annie...beautiful. One huge negative...my god the jokes were so terrible. At one point he leans into the mic and says "I need to fix my TUUUNING" and people laughed and i just thought to myself...jesus christ, the power it is to hold a guitar and be 5 feet above people that they laugh at that. His jokes were so bad i felt awkward for him. fish yes Edited August 2, 2006 by jenksd

Capn12
Muse - Map of the Problematique the song I'm really listening to alot right now. As an admitted Muse fan, if you can get past that horrid radio-jingly "Supermassive Black Hole" that they seemingly made JUST to get airplay, the "Black Holes and Revelations" CD to me is pretty solid. Also really like "Knights of Cydonia" and "Exo-Politics"

Nope, I had other schlitz to do....like stay otta the heat. I gotta pick your brain later about some of the acts at Lolla. Starting with Gnarls Barkley vs. Sonic Youth, both on at the same time. Who would you see? I'm leaning toward SY. Eels, or Panic at the Disco? Edited August 3, 2006 by LosMediasBlancas

Eels, or Panic at the Disco? i hope that second question was a joke. well, everyone keeps saying how great gnarls barkley is live, but everytime i see them cee lo is just standing still and upright ... not exactly sam cooke. As for sonic youth, i'd go see em but, when they tour after an album they play that album for the high majority of the songs...so if you go to see them you should like rather ripped a lot Okay guys...i'm gonna be gone for the next 2 weeks on vacation/setting up for school i'll see if i can check in but have a good one! LosMediasBlancas
Back from a long, boring Lolla weekend. I'm dissapointed and very sunburned. In a nutshell, the problem is that the fest is too big and the stages are spread too far apart. So if there are two bands that are playing at back to back time slots at different stages, you missed 15-20 minutes of their 60 minute set because that's how long it took to walk from one stage to the other. Not to mention that by the time you got to that next stage, you were so far back, that you could only look at the jumbotrons. I spent Friday running back and forth between stages and not seeing anyone's full set. Friday: Subways, so-so The M's-awful Eels-very good and hilarious Mute Math-AWESOME Secret Machines, solid as usual My Morning Jacket-good Sleater Kinnney- bad Saturday: The Go! Team-goofy, music for children Wolfmother- very good, I thought some kid broke my toe. Flip flops are a bad idea when the pit breaks out around you. Sonic Youth-been there, done that Smoking Popes- surprisingly enjoyable, fun band Flaming Lips- not enough good music, too many theatrics New Pornagraphers- o-ver-rated Sunday: The Hold Steady- I love those guys, finally got to see them. Ben Kweller- boooo 30 seconds to Mars-that Ledo kid seems like he's trying to sell you the music instead of letting you decide for yourself- bad The Shins- hurt by some huge sound problems which is too bad, what I was able to hear sounded interesting, no decision. Wilco- good, but seemed to be hitting their stride as their time slot ended. Too bad, coulda been awesome.
The Critic
That's my problem with the big outdoor shows. Generally speaking, if you have 4 bands you want to see on a given day, the odds are that two of them will be playing at the same time WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY the gosh darn on opposite ends of the concert staging. That happens every year at Summerfest and it happened to me when I went to the Warped Tour 5 or 6 years ago. That's why I stopped going to the bigger outdoor fests. Of course, my problem with both years of the Chicago-based Lolla is that I only wanted to see 4 bands total for the 2 (last year) and 3 (this year) days. So assuming that I'd have to choose between two of them at each time, it would cost 75 bucks to see an hour's set of each. No, thanks, Perry, keep it. Wolfmother are bascially Jet v2.0 happening all over again, in terms of making it in the States with their rock and roll type of music. Still a very good band though and they're pretty damn popular down here ATM.

Still a very good band though and they're pretty damn popular down here ATM. I hope they last a little bit longer than friggin Jet. The next WM record will tell us if they want to be a good band with lasting power, or if they want to make money and get out. By the way, Perry Farrell came out and gave Wolfmother a nice big introduction before their set. I never saw him for the rest of the festival.
