Xero
http://www.nj.com/sports/ledger/index.ssf?...57081950900.xml Sorry if this has been posted somewhere and if this is old news... The only thing preventing the Knicks from upgrading their roster by next week is logistics, according to several optimists who are monitoring GM Isiah Thomas' bids to acquire Jamal Crawford and Erick Dampier. So say the optimists, anyway. Aaron Goodwin puts Crawford's chances of becoming a Knick at "seven, on a scale of 1-to-10," and toward that aim, the agent was trying to get Thomas and Chicago GM Jim Paxson in a room together to close the deal. "I think if that happens, we can get it done in hours -- absolutely," Goodwin said yesterday. "It's up to Paxson, but if we can all sit down it will be done with by the weekend. ... I proposed we get together, and they both received it well. Isiah is ready any time. I expect to hear from Paxson today." Asked whether such a deal could get done without the Knicks including Dikembe Mutombo -- the major stumbling block -- Goodwin responded, "Yes." Crawford, a restricted free agent who cannot escape from Chicago without the Bulls' blessing, no longer wants any part of Chicago. Paxson is aware of this, because Crawford told him so. "It's very safe to say that," Goodwin confirmed. "It's not a matter of not wanting to come back. He wanted to come back, but it was clear to Jamal that he was not being invited back with the same vigor that New York is trying to acquire him." Neither Thomas nor Paxson were available for comment yesterday. Meanwhile, Thomas' pursuit of Dampier, the Golden State center, is far from ended. A league official close to that negotiation said nothing will get done until agent Dan Fegan returns from Spain on Monday, but the assumption that the Warriors are no longer interested in the Knicks' sign-and-trade proposal (involving Nazr Mohammed and Othella Harrington) is "not the case at all." On the contrary, the Warriors are still allowing Fegan to broker the best deal he can find for the 7-foot free agent, and that it is a matter of finding the right pieces that will satisfy Golden State's need to take short-term contracts as compensation. But though Fegan clearly wants Dampier in New York, time is running short. Dampier told an ABC affiliate in Jackson, Miss., on Wednesday that his choices may be limited to signing with the Atlanta Hawks for market value (four years, $37 million), or being stuck with some team's mid-level exception, that extra $4.9 million fund that teams over the cap can earmark toward free agents. The official close to the Knicks-Warriors negotiation said Dampier has no reason to be pessimistic, and that there is still potential for a sign-and-trade deal. If the Warriors cooperate, the Knicks are prepared to give Dampier a six-year, $67-million contract. Meanwhile, a report out of Cleveland that Vin Baker -- another Goodwin client -- would visit the Cavaliers was premature. Goodwin said the Knicks are the front-runners for the free-agent forward, though he is likely to demand a part of the Knicks' mid-level exception. Brian
I'm a Wolverine fan and I think Crawford is overrated. Can drop 30 one night than 8 the next. He won't lead us to the promise land if that ever comes.

WSoxShuf
Have you ever seen Jamal catch the ball and shoot. No he can only shoot off the dribble.
dasox24
I think Crawford is overrated. Can drop 30 one night than 8 the next. He won't lead us to the promise land if that ever comes. I totally agree. At the end of the season 2 years ago, when Jamal finished really strong, I was really excited about him as a player. But after seeing him throughout the year, he's way overrated. I could care less if we get rid of him. Actually, I'd rather not have him on our team next year than have him on our team 'cause he'll probably be a cancer all year. Jordan4life_2007
I agree that Jamal is very inconsistent. But he's still very young and has huge upside. Trading him wouldn't hurt as much because we have Gordon now. But I would rather not trade him. I guarantee you if we do he'll have an all-star year for some other team. Chisoxfn
If the Bulls can dump Erob and JYd to get two guys whose contracts are up at the end of the year, then I dothis deal in a heartbeat. The Bulls are still in rebuilding mode and getting some ending contracts will give the Bulls some serious leverage this offseason. The team is still a year off and then next year they will have been able to see the nucleus grow a bit and get an idea of what to do. Plus AD now has an ending contract, which means he ends up having pretty good trade value for a sign and trade with another team.

He sucks, in three straight games he went 1-12, 2-13, and 2-12 for threes. All i want to know is as a coach why do you let someone shoot that many from the three is they are shooting s***ty as hell. He had so many game last year that he went 0-9 or 0-8, get his ass out of here imo.

But last season, he had 28 gms of scoring 20 or more points. Including scoring gms of 50 and 42. The talent and potential is there. People seem to forget, Jamal only played in twenty something college gms before joining the Bulls. He's had to fight with injuries, Jay Williams, bad coaching. He's still very young. Maybe it is just me but that is how i feel.

Yeah, screw those guys who are trying to live out their dream and earn a great living at the same time. But I'm sure they should all stay in college to get an "education". rolleyeyes.gif

Coming out early really helped curry and chandler didn't it, crawford for that matter.

What proof is there that a guy will develop more in college than he would if he stayed in college for a longer period of time. Leaving early sure didn't hurt Allen Iverson, Magic Johnson, Garnett, Anthony, James, Amare Stoudemire, Moses Malone, Shawn Kemp, and the list goes on and on and on. I agree that there have been some who have come out and did well. But many more fail than succeed, you will see that within the next few years because 18-19 year olds are just not strong enough and have not developed enough to match up against the veterans. There are gonna be so many busts that it's goona be ridiculous. People need to realize while these kids are putting up excellent numbers in highschool that it is just that highschool. The majority of people they are against are in the range of 5'6- 6'4. So of course if you are 7 foot you can easily dominate.
dasox24
Anyone know who are some big name free agents next year or the year after? With all this talk of getting rid of salaries like JYD's and E-Rob's, maybe there's a guy that's gonna be a FA that Pax really wants. hammerhead johnson
He sucks, in three straight games he went 1-12, 2-13, and 2-12 for threes. Hahahahaha! I had him on my fantasy team last year. It seemed like he had a 1-10 night from three point range EVERY FREAKING TIME. You can't ship him out of here fast enough as far as I'm concerned..... He's gotta be one of the dumbest players in the league. Him and Curry are best friends, and I could totally see why. It's like a Beavis and Butthead type deal. Those guys are perfect for one another.
