We are no where near getting finley

The Philadelphia Inquirer, citing a NL executive, says the Phillies are close to acquiring Steve Finley from the Diamondbacks.

The Phils are believed to be offering Marlon Byrd. Another source cited in the same article, however, said the Dodgers are the current favorites for Finley. The MLB trade deadline is Saturday, but Finley is believed to have imposed his own deadline of Thursday. If he hasn't been dealt by then, he wants to talk to the D'Backs about an extension.

Byrd seems like a pretty damn steep price for finley imo.

I think they are crazy to want that much in return for a 39 year old, if he was 29 it's a different story.

Teams in playoff contention will give up a lot if they think 1 guy can help them push them over the edge to win a world series. Of course if they trade Byrd, they have to hope Jimmy Rollins can keep producing as the lead off man which he hasn't done consistently in his career.

I must be in the minority, but something about acquiring a 39 year old outfielder does not get me very excited. I know he is a good player, but I wouldn't give up a whole lot, which it seems Arizona wants, for a 39 year old rent-a-player.

Same here, once i found out that they want that sort of talent i say f*** it.

Arizona is posturing. When it gets closer to the trade deadline, they'll lower their demands. Didn't I hear tonight that they have lost 14 in a row? They might as well get something for him. Holding on to him makes no sense whatsoever.

I don't think I'd really want Finley on this team. If there's another trade that's going to happen, it has to involve more major leaguers. I just don't see anyone on the farm system that teams would want besides Anderson, Sweeney, and maybe a few others.

I remember when Seattle was posturing about Griffey.. but when they found out that he would only go to Cincy they had to take what they could get.

I think Finley and Johnson will be that way for Arizona..

Don't be surprised if Arizona doesn't gte as much for them as they want or you think they could get in trade.

He won't go anywhere on the west coast. I think Arizona wants to bring him back and if he goes to LA or San Diego he's going to be likely to reup with them, especially if he's a Padre.

Baseball Tonight was saying that the Marlins will offer Jason Stokes and that he'll likely go there. I hope Finley is the first to go and that the Phillies lose out on him. This will make them more likely to give up some good arms to get Benson, keeping him from Minnesota. At the same time, another pitcher definately helps the Phillies shot at getting to the playoffs and at that point going deep.
