DABearSoX
There once was a time where a team did not have a definate closer....mostly any year before dennis ecksersly came around.....a closer is a great thing to have, but think of a team with 2 closers a lefty and a righty....think of the situational possibilities WOW
TheBlackSox8
Guillermo mota is the guy the sox should look into...dodgers are willing to trade him for a sp or another hitter...he is an excellent set up guy so there would be no problem with him looking to close games. hammerhead johnson
he is an excellent set up guy so there would be no problem with him looking to close games. I wouldn't go as far as to say that. Many a great set up man, including guys like Damaso Marte and Latroy Hawkins, have failed miserably when it comes to closing games. It takes a unique individual to get the job done. witesoxfan
I would love Guardado...that almost would make it a 5-inning game, meaning, that if we did get to the playoffs, we could let ELo pitch the first 5 innings, hope that he gives up 3 runs or less, and then have Guardado-Politte-Marte-Shingo go from there. That would be insane. But what do you want more...a very good bat to help us get there while acquiring another reliever to just get outs(and not be a friggin stud out of the pen like Guardado would be), or do you just get another decent bat and go for Guardado, and make our pen that much tougher come playoff time? Or do you want to get another stud starter, who can help come in and just shut the friggin door...that guy obviously being Randy Johnson. KW is in a tough, tough position right now. We are probably, at this point, the favorites to win the division. It is most definately our division to lose. However, it is not a guarantee by any means, especially with Maggs and Thomas out of the lineup. He pretty much has the pieces to make, at the very, very, very most, 2 more major moves, and in all likelyhood, 1 major move. For instance, if we do Jas's hypothetical deal for Beltran(I believe Crede, Borchard, Munoz, plus another prospect), we could perhaps make a move of Cotts and Spidale(or someone like that...not sure who though) for Guardado, and at that point, you really almost do not have the pieces to get, say RJ...you could, but you'd end up having to give them Sweeney or Anderson, and that probably would not be good for us. Let's hope he makes the right move.
JoshPR
Also a tidbit on Maggs in this article. One almost-certain Met target, Magglio Ordonez, is now a near sure thing to reach the free-agent market. Even before he re-injured his surgically repaired left knee and was possibly lost for the season, the White Sox had determined not to re-sign the right-fielder, a person familiar with their thinking said, because Ordonez believes he is worth in the Vladimir Guerrero range (five years, $71 million) and the Sox do not. Chicago believes it is better off spending the money earmarked for Ordonez on a few players. Despite their public claims to the contrary, the Mariners are listening to what is available for closer Eddie Guardado, and will deal lefty set-up men Mike Myers and Ron Villone. However, upper management has promised Jamie Moyer that Seattle will not try to deal him unless he expresses an interest in going elsewhere. That is bad news for the Yanks, who favor Moyer and Al Leiter if they're unable to land Randy Johnson. The White Sox, the most active team so far, are looking at Guardado among others in their quest to add another arm to either their bullpen or rotation.
