Revenge of the Sith

July 25, 2004 — Lucasfilm announced its new title Saturday: "Revenge of the Sith."

Sansweet announced the title by pulling off a baseball jersey to reveal a black T-shirt emblazoned with "Revenge of the Sith."

"For some time now, the naming of a new 'Star Wars' movie has taken on some special meaning among core fans who love to take part in guessing games and speculation before a title is announced," Sansweet told nearly 6,500 convention attendees. "And then (they) engage in debate once it is ... so let the debate begin."

The first two movies in the Star Wars Prequel pretty much sucked. He's going to have to put together a hell of a movie to tie all that suckiness into what was a great original series.

Edit: The Acting sucked, the storylike is cool and all... but I could act better then that.

You’re not the only one who agrees that the prequels weren’t that good. Episode I had so much hype (and I mean a lot) that it got the Star Wars geeks to be awakened (such as me) and got us slobbering for even more. Episode II came and the film was a little more serious, but not an A+ movie. The original trilogy is a classic and IMO no other Sci-Fi film can be compared with the 1980 sequel “The Empire Strikes Back.” I’m just hoping for a good decent film since it will likely be the last Star Wars movie shown in the big screen.

Don’t disappoint us George Lucas :chair ;)

I can't wait for the release, just so that these crap-tastic movies can get the hell out of theaters and I won't have to hear about them anymore. I loved the original three, collected all the toys as a kid. Then he did that Special Edition stuff, and I only saw the first one. Ugh, crap.

Then I saw EP 1, and I was astounded by how bad it was.

Then I saw EP 2, and got suckered in at first, and loved it. Then I bought the DVD, watched it again, and couldn't believe how much worse than EP 1 it actually was!

I will probably see this thing just for some sort of f***ed up closure. But what TERRIBLE movies these are!

this movie will be no good

nothing matched the first one ever for being something so totally new and stunning an audience with excitment and edge of the seat wonder

nothing matches the first three

in part because we all wondered, what happens next?

we have known what happens next in these prequels, and especially in this one.

Hayden Christiansen and Natalie Portman get it on.

They have kids.

Anakin Skywalker goes bad.

Everything is bleak.

It has to go that way to get to the first Star Wars movie.

With no suspense, it will be a real feat to make this one worth watching.

Funny how that is the only one Lucas didn't write himself.

Lucas wrote the story for both Empire (screenplay by Leigh Brackett) and Jedi (screenplay by Larry Kasdan). The point is that he was smart enough to not try directing either of those himself (Irv Kershner did Empire and Richard Marquand did Jedi), and instead concentrate on doing what he was really good at - being a very imaginative visionary and letting other talented people sweat the details.

I had hoped that after Episode I Lucas would have again given up the director's chair. Sadly he didn't. In Eoisode I Lucas demonstrated that he still was a visionary but also that he now has NO IDEA how to direct scenes where actual flesh-and-blood humans have to interact (in retrospect, we found out a lot of those scenes were composited in post-production with the people not even filmed in the scene at the same time -- and it shows). How odd for a director whos earlier efforts were all about interpersonal interaction (American Grafitti anyone?) to have become so soulless.

So George was pissed that Episode I got panned and said "I'll direct the next one and show everyone." And he turned out more of the same forgettable fare, got more of a chip on his shoulder when II also got panned, and here we are waiting for him to "Really show us" this time around.

Aside from the fact that the efffects and the CG have become the real stars any the only thing Lucas seems to have any passion for, I think cw absolutely hit it on the head. All along, we've known where the prequels had to lead and there is no real suspense - just this uncomfortable waiting around while Hayden Christensen transforms from being merely a very bad actor to being a very bad Sith Lord.

I'm sure I will see the film. I'm sure I will be disappointed. Ah. the Cinema Magic...
