Diligent escort service leads cops to murder suspect

A man charged with murdering his wife in Minnesota was arrested Sunday morning in Addison after he allegedly tried to use his dead wife's credit card to pay for an escort service at a motel.

Moua Her, 22, is wanted by St. Paul police in the July 18 slaying of his 21-year-old estranged wife, Sheng Vang.

Vang was found in Her's St. Paul garage lying in a pool of blood, her body punctured with 63 knife wounds and a knife thrust into her neck, according to court documents charging Her with second-degree murder.

Late Saturday, a woman from an escort service went to the Days Inn at 600 E. Lake in Addison, where she met Her, the woman told the Chicago Sun-Times. When Her produced a credit card with Vang's name on it, the woman called her company's dispatcher, who ran Her's and Vang's names in an Internet search.

The search turned up this information: Her was wanted for Vang's murder.

With the escort still alone in the motel room with Her, the dispatcher called back to deliver some frightening news. The dispatcher told the escort to calmly tell Her there had been a problem with the credit card and then to leave. The escort did just that. She was completely "freaked out," by the experience, the escort told the Sun-Times.

The dispatcher then called Addison police.

Officers and the DuPage County sheriff's SWAT team surrounded the motel and arrested Her shortly before 4 a.m. Sunday, as the wanted man was leaving his room. He did not try to escape, Addison police said.

St. Paul police investigators were on their way to Addison on Sunday.

Vang had complained of repeated beatings at the hands of her estranged husband, Vang's mother told investigators. Vang left Her after one particularly severe beating, but later reunited and then left again, Vang's mother said.

In March, Vang said Her tried to strangle her, and she told police she was afraid he would try to hurt her again, according to the charging documents.

The day before she died, Vang called her mother to say she was going to Her's house to pick up some immigration paperwork and other documents, St. Paul officials said.
