7/26 Games

I'm listening to the Warthogs game on the radio (Listen Here) and BMac is starting. The announcers were in agreement that he reminded them of Mark Prior in his tall, thin stature and great control. When interviewing BMac previously they said he told them that he has been compared to Prior before. They also mentioned Black Jack McDowell and Mike McDougal as similar pitchers to BMac. The 'Hogs are up 2-0 in the bottom of the 2nd against last place Lynchburg. Darren Blakely hit a 2-run HR to drive in Sweeney. BMac has 3 strikeouts, no walks, 2 hits through 2.

Wasserman just keeps getting the job done.  Time for Kenny to put him on the trading block.

OK - I've seriously had enough of you. You're still complaining and referencing to the Freddy Garcia - HAVE YOU BEEN WATCHING ANYT START MADE BY FREDDY?

Gosh damn - rant over, sorry to the rest of you.

Getting back to the original topic of this thread, Fields and Brice have been getting a lot of attention for their hot streaks and they deserve it b/c they've just been raking it in the last week or so, but so has Pedro Lopez, who's average is up to .290 now... Another good start by Whisler; I love this guy and hope he keeps it up!

Other games:

Bristol game was cancelled, for 2nd day in a row, in Top of 5th. Bristol was losing 4-1 at the time.

Great Falls won 10-7 in 11 innings. There was plenty of offense tonight, and leading the way were Adam Ricks, Ryan McCarthy, and Tom Collaro. Ricks was 2-5 with a double and solo HR. R-Mac played SS today (he's been DHing a lot so far) and was 1-6 with a 2-run HR and 2 runs scored. Collaro, who's raised his average about 35 pts. in the last week and a half, was 3-5 with 2 HR's and 5 RBI. Donny Lucy was 2-4 with a BB. Nachreiner was bad in relief, surrendering 4 ER in 2.2 IP. Banks was solid, as he has been all year, in relief, pitching a scoreless 7th inning. Russell was solid too, pitching 2 scoreless innings. Great Falls Box

Charlotte lost 12-6. Wilson Valdez was 3-5 with a double, but suprisingly didn't draw a BB. Nelson was 2-5 with a rbi. Munoz was terrible after looking like he started to get back on track, giving up 7 ER in 3.2 IP. Baj pitched poorly for the 1st time as a Knight, giving up 2 ER in 0.2 IP. Charlotte Box

Birmingham game was also cancelled.

One last footnote on the Cerb/Old Socks stuff.

After talking to Jason about it, I am removing the stuff dealing with this arguement. This is one of those situations better left to be talked about through PMs and emails. And as always, if anyone has any comments questions, etc, please email me, Jas or anyone else you feel comfortable with.

Thanks Mike

Apparently someone beat me to spliting this topic. Cheers to whoever did it, this thread can still be salvaged.

Anyway, if BMac and Whisler keep pitching like this you can punch their tickets at Birmingham and Winston-Salem respectively next year.

Ya, I have been really excited by Whisler's progress. He struggled early on and Mike and I saw him working on adding his splitter. Looked like a pitch with some potential although he was still adjusting to the release point and where he would like it to finish.

It seems like that will be one of his strikeout pitches as he progresses. He's been fantastic of late though. Bmac was being BMAC again. Really interesting hearing the announcers compare him to Prior of all people. They were talking about how spectacular his control is.

Seems to me like everyone that sees Bmac pitch, really quickly gets high on his potential.

Jason what is BMac's velocity, does he get it up there any quicker than 90-91?

He's still kind of a rail thin guy, yes? I know he's super tall and probably not much more than 200 lbs.?

Do you suspect he'll add velo if/when he fills out?

His control is impressive, does his fastball have any tailing life?

Right now he gets as high as 93 MPH, but I have a pretty firm belief that when he finishes filling out he could be up in the 95 MPH zone. His fastball has decent movement and like has been mentioned many times, he has amazing control of it.

He's around 200 pounds, maybe a little more, although the Sox site lists him at 180 (This is incorrect).

I can add to this a bit, but in yesterdays game he topped out at 96 MPH, so his velocity is definately increasing rapidly as he continues to add wait. I think eventually he could end up being consistently in the 94-96 MPH range, we'll see if I'm right though.

I'm assuming the 96 MPH was an outlier at this point and that he is still consistently in the 93 MPH range. However, the fact that he got it up their says a little something in terms of him gaining MPH to his fastball.

With his control, he could be pretty nasty with a plus fastball and the curve/changeup. Hell, he's already nasty, but I mean even nastier!!!!
