Hogs are streaking, due to getting far better starting ptiching from the likes of B-Mac and Tracey.

Fotop
Oh no, not the Biscuits! Beat up on anyone but the Biscuits! I love the biscuits' mascot btw, I really considered purchasing their blue hat...it's hilarious and I suggest checking it out. It's a biscuit with his mouth open and a butter tongue on a blue hat with a yellow bill. Hilarious stuff. But in all seriousness, I don't know what I'd do without these threads. Not only have they increased my knowledge of minor league baseball, they have allowed me to know more about the Sox as a whole. Knowing more about the Sox is always a good thing in my book. So a big thanks goes out to all you guys who keep this up (Danman, DBAH0, jason, dasox, rex, cerb, etc.) Also in captain of the obvious news, how about that Brian Anderson? 3 for 6 tonight and pushing his AVG up to a paltry .329. With an outstanding finish and/or an outstanding spring he could have an outside shot to make the club next year. I doubt it, but good money bets on the fact that he'll be with the Knights to start next year. To me, Anderson was probably why Reed was expendable, not Borchard. Oh yea and I guess that Sweeney guy had a say in that as well . So anyways back to Anderson, who's seen this guy in person (Rex, I'm looking in your general direction)? I'd really like to get some sort of input on how this guy looks on the field and what type of player he really is. Can you tell that Anderson is one of my favorite Sox prospects? Any sort of info/feedback would be highly appreciated. Alright, sorry for the long post in the game thread but I just wanted to let you guys know you all do a bang up job here. Oh yea and to say that Anderson rocks the party.
MnSoxFan
Great Falls gets clobbered despite 16 hits of their own, Collaro with another good day. Suarez and the pen stink it up. http://milb.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnfor...px?GAMEID=16820
Guest JimH
I saw Anderson play several games in spring training. My opinion is he'll probably be ready for 2006. He has good speed, certainly not blinding speed. He gets good reads on balls to the outfield, no simple task in Tucson. He appears to have good baseball smarts and knows instinctively which base to throw to. Pretty good arm, and accurate. At the plate, he's got an idea of what he's doing but there were times he looked overmatched in the spring. That's not unusual, it was his first time facing big league pitchers. For the most part, he was able to work the counts and did what was needed to move a runner along, etc. Brian is fairly tall, I'd guess about 6'2 or so, and still quite thin. I didn't see a lot of pop in his bat but he was able to drive the ball into the gaps a few times. I remember thinking I was pleasantly impressed but also realized he needed more experience. Looks like he's thriving thus far, very good to see.

Not sure what the reasoning was, maybe it was lack of outright speed or something??
Guest JimH
My eye is untrained of course, but Anderson glides pretty nicely out in CF. He certainly has the arm and the instincts. I will say this, I watched him and Reed and Sweeney very closely for 5 games. I thought Anderson had the best tools although I didn't see much power (he needs to beef up). Best stroke was Sweeney ... and what was surprising to me, I felt Sweeney had the best stroke by far. Reed I felt had the best strike zone judgement although I was really impressed with how Sweeney was working some counts. Anderson looked the best defensively to me. It was a very limited sample size of 5 games, but Anderson looked just fine in CF to me.

I too have heard Sweeney has a very sweet stroke. I just hope we keep the both of them, we gotta be ready to replace Magglio next year, we may have a one or two year stopgap measure, but I want one of these two in the lineup in 2 years. I do not hold much hope for Borchard.
Guest JimH
I can see Anderson getting a taste of the big leagues in September of next year and be ready to go spring 2006. Sweeney I would say 2007 if he progresses next year, which I'd suspect would be at Birmingham.
Cerbaho-WG
Tracey has been good the whole year. Lots of stuff to post on the Barons 19-2 slaughter. Just look at the box. Box Score I wouldn't say taht. Tracey acknowledged when Jason and I interviewed him that he struggled in the early part of the season. But he's been coming into his own lately and pitching phenomenaly. I still think it'd be cool to see him get the Carolina League record for 30 plunked batters. Only 11 more, Sean! Go go go! Jas, we need to get those interviews up, we've been promising them for weeks, lol.
danman31
I wouldn't say taht. Tracey acknowledged when Jason and I interviewed him that he struggled in the early part of the season. But he's been coming into his own lately and pitching phenomenaly. He had a 2.93 ERA through May and oddly enough he had the same exact ERA on July 1st. What's impressive about what he has done lately is that he has gone deeper into games than I remember him doing so earlier. Also on Anderson, when I saw him in Spring Training this year I was surprised. On my scouting notes from the game I wrote, "Anderson, 1-1, triple rope. deceptive speed. fielding gaff, shallow ball he let fall that I thought he could have had, led to run." By deceptive speed I mean he didn't burn the basepaths on his triple, but by the end of the play he was on 3rd easily, surprisingly. He was pretty solid in the outfield other than that one play, I didn't see him as a centerfielder though. This, of course, was just one game. Rex Hudler
I am still forming a specific opinion on Anderson. Some players it takes me a little longer to collect my thoughts, if you will. What I can say is that Borchard has tools, Reed has skills and Anderson probably falls in between the two with some of each. He seems like he is pretty solid in CF, but I thought Reed was as well and no one seems to think he will stay there. A scout I talked to last week (about several Sox players) said he thought that Anderson would eventually end up as a corner OF. For that reason, he liked Sweeney better, because Sweeney has a better arm and hits from the left side. Anderson seems to have pretty good patience. I have seen him alternatively have the ball just jump off his bat and hit a weak ground ball. Without getting much more into specifics (I will in time), I will just say that if he applies himself, he has the chance to play baseball for a very long time.
