Rex Hudler
Just wondering what is going on at minor league camp. When do games begin? Who has come in ready to go and who is out of shape? Any surprises?
KipWellsFan
I was looking for a site with stats from minor league spring training but I couldn't find anything. Is minor league spring training basically the same thing as MLB spring training?
Jim Fainter
I was going to ask the same question as Rex. How is Anthony Webster looking?
Bullard
Sorry guys I know it has been awhile but the internet connection at the hotel is brutally slow and I can't stand it. Anyway, games in minor league camp are underway and believe it or not the bham squad only has 10 days of camp yet. I pitched yesterday and went 4 inn against the DBacks AA team. I gave up 1 run on 3 hits and 0 BB and 2 K. I think I got the Rockies Friday but I'm not really positive. As far as others in camp who are doing well: Jeremy Reed has been swinging a hot bat. Royce has pitched well in relief, along with Matt Smith. Ulacia has pitched well, West has pitched well, tommy Nicholson has played well both ofensively and defensively, and some others are winning spots as well but I cant remember, nor do I see everybody play. To Fainter: I have no clue how Webster is doing as well as all the younger guys because they play on the road when we play at home and vice versa, so I havent had a chance to see him, but I'm sure he's doing well and he'll be patrolling the outfield in Kannapolis. Colon came down to our side today and threw 6 innings in the windy, rainy, and cold weather. He pitched well until the wind started blowing straight out to left. He gave up a couple of bombs but he looked strong and he was throwing fuel. Glover pitched as well a did pretty well. Well the countdown has officially begun for me until camp breaks for Bham on the 28th. Hopefully I can get on here one more time before we break. Adios

I wish you weren't busy so we could of kicked it a little longer. I thought it was real cool how things were going on. It was interesting watching all the drills the pitchers and position players did. I think I was there before the game play actually started. I can't say enough how much we appreciate this updates. They are awesome

Rex Hudler
Jim Bullard: Here is one for you... I was looking at the Sox Minor League rosters tonight and found something kind of strange. On the Sox Great Falls roster, there is a player listed in the pitchers simply as Yofu. I wouldn't think much of it, but it lists his age as 29 years old. Does such a player exist? Surely they aren't thinking of sending a 29 yr old to Great Falls? Have you seen him at your level or is he working out with the lower levels? Help me out with the scoop, please. KipWellsFan
Here's a link I assume this is the guy. http://www.npb-bis.com/player/register/act...e/70028920.html Also a little thing about he being signed by our organization here. http://www.npb-bis.com/player/register/act...e/70028920.html I don't think he'll ever amount to anything. But your right he's like 6 years older than everyone else on that team. I also found he was signed in 2002 by Great Falls.
Rex Hudler
Both of those links were the same KWF. And for what it is worth, you get the cookie of the day for pulling a link from nowhere out of your arse!
Chisoxfn
Ya, that was the weirdest site on info, I'll tell ya that. I give ya credit Kip. I don't have a clue who that guy is. Thats weird though, 29, I wonder if somehow he's just a young coach of some sort or a special guest or something.

And for what it is worth, you get the cookie of the day for pulling a link from nowhere out of your arse! oops here it is, The Chicago White Sox have signed former Daiei pitcher Tetsu Yofu, who toiled in the Taiwanese league last season, to a minor league contract.... thats from this site http://baseballguru.com/archives/entries/00000101.htm There's no point in going there because I told you all that it says there about Yofu. Bullard
Yes people Tetsu Yofu is real and he is 29. But he is with Charlotte not Great Falls. The only reason he appears on the GF roster is because the Charlotte, Bham, WS and KAnnapolis rosters are full (in terms of protection purposes for Rule V etc.) Since he is 29 and in his first American org. he can be put on any roster and be protected. Look for him to break camp with Charlotte. He has pretty good stuff and he looks like he's 20. He's also a really cool guy who has in the last 3 weeks learned a little English and a little Spanish and he has combined them, along with Japanese to make his own language to communicate with us. He was actually my throwing partner when I was with the AAA work group so I did my part and taught him every slang english word I could think of just to confuse him a little more. He reminds me of Hasegawa on Seattle. And believe it or not him and Ichiro are real good buddies. They grew up playing together.

witesoxfan
You know....if this kid makes the big leagues, the Sox will have to start selling tofu....and then when Yofu comes in....it will get people confused. Man....Asian people, when they just come over from Asia....are a mess when they get to America. English is such a confusing language in its own, and then if they move to a big city, probably have to learn Spanish too. They are fun to talk to though. Hey....I wanna make my own language too. That sounds fun
