CWSGuy406
Does the trade of Penny/Choi for Mota/LaDuca/Encarnacion mean that Florida is packing it in or not? I really don't know how to take this trade. If it means that they are, I really hope Kenny is looking at obtaining someone from that Florida pitching staff, whether it be Mota, Benitez, or Pavano. Maybe I'm taking this trade the wrong way, but while Mota is an excellent addition, how can Florida survive in that division with up to four teams, including them, contending? Thoughts? Dick Allen
Not at all. They needed a set up guy, Billy Koch had been handling that job. Mota is one of the best in the business. They needed a catcher, LoDuca is pretty good. Encarcion is a decent ballplayer. The Marlins are loaded with starters, so Penny was expendable. This is a great trade for the Marlins. LowerCaseRepublican
I concur Dick...since IRod left, the Marlins have had a gaping hole at C. LoDuca fills that in nicely. They also desperately needed a reliable arm to get the ball to Benitez and since Beckett is coming back off the DL and the Fighting Fish already have a ton of quality starters, they definitely could afford to get rid of Penny. Encarnacion is just icing on the cake as another good bat (along with LoDuca's bat) in this deal. Marlins are still looking to contend and this was not a white flag sale by the Marlins by any means. Goober
Ya, I dont understand the all the Fleecing talk. I think its a SOLID trade for both sides. starters are worth more than setup men
Goober
Your Correct, but when you have the Staff on the WS winning Marlins, you can trade 1 away.... but if Beckett isnt healthy, you're in bad shape
Confederate_48
The Marlins have been playing without Beckett all along. So its sorta like not losing anything in the starting rotation when Beckett takes over for Penny. If Beckett gets hurt yet again though then their gonna be in some trouble. redandwhite
All these NL East deals really mean is that the Phils, Mets, and Fish don't think the Braves have what it takes to win the division. What a tight race thats going to be, wow.
