Winning Ugly
Man I was a HUGE Loaiza supporter (SS2K can attest to that), but COTRERAS? Good Lord, can I pack your bags from Tijuana, E-Lo? Buh-Bye!!!! GREAT FREAKIN TRADE!!!!

Brian
Time for nicknames for Contreras...how about THE DEFECTOR!!!!!? Guess they have to pull that new commercial with Loaiza, Garcia, and Buehrle?
fathom
4 million is not bad for the for the numbers he could potentially put up. Considering that Loaiza will want more than double that 4 million, that's a great deal for the Sox. There has also been talk that the Sox could try to make Contreras a closer. That could be interesting. All I remember about Contreras is how he absolutely dominated a good Sox lineup last year at end of season. reesdi
Two questions: Why is Matt Clement still donning kubbie blue? Why are Cisco, Brownlie, Guzman and Pie still in the Cubs organization? That's what separates your Hendry's from your Kenny's. They got Ramirez, Garciaparra and Lofton for nothing, while we can't even swing Jose Cruz. :puke
IlliniKrush
There is no way in hell Contreras becomes the closer, that makes no sense at all
Harry Chappas
We still have no hitting, defense or common sense. I like this trade but what would it have cost us to make a run a Nomar. Valentin is better then Alex Gonzalez. This trade has really no impact on this season.

So all in all they are equal.

Yoda
It would have been a lot better if we got another bat. I don’t know from what team, but just another good hitter. Any word on Everett?

EvilJester99
This could be awesome depending on how much NYY picked up of his contract. Contreras is f***ing nasty.
ChiSox_Sonix
I'm going to sound like an idiot, but when is this waiver deadline? Is there even a deadline? I know August 31st is the last date to add players to your post-season roster but couldnt you still make a trade in September and they just cant play in the post-season? Thats better than what Loaiza would have been asking for anyway. Loaiza has sucked thus far and Contreras could be very good for the Sox. I like the deal. BurlyMan56
Great Trade first of all. I believe Contreras dominated us at home in april of this year. I also remember Hawk saying how Contreras has one of the nastiest sliders and can dominate anyone's lineup if he put it all together. 2nd off Are they going to pass out those bobble head dolls on Aug 21, just wondering because I have tics. 3rd-Too bad E-Lo couldnt get his 100th win a Sox uni. Thanks a bunch! 4th-Loaiza was a quality guy. Was in the bar at SoxFest all night signing autographs, real personable. My neighbor even bought him a beer signing so many of our cards, bats, balls. Thanks for a memorable 2003 season last year and your 9 wins this year. BRING ON THE DEFECTOR!

YASNY
On the surface, I'm not real enthralled with this trade. I guess wait and see what happens is the only approach to take.
WSoxShuf
I hear the Sox will pay the rest of Loaiza's contract this year. Yankees will pay for Contreras the next two years. If he turns his s*** around, what a great deal. ELO you were a fluke, now get out of here.(But thanks for last year)
