The Twins were supposed to receive another prospect in addition to Class A lefthander Justin Jones in the four-team Nomar Garciaparra blockbuster, according to two rival executives, but in the rush to complete the trade, that player was left out of the deal. There apparently was confusion over whether the Cubs or the Red Sox were supposed to provide the second player for 1B Doug Mientkiewicz. The Twins could have scuttled the entire deal at the last moment, but chose not to. . . .
