You know I've been wondering the exact same thing for a long time, just never asked...

Now after simply searching "acronyms" in Google, the first link was an acronym database, and ESPN is:

ESPN Entertainment and Sports Programming Network

For a while I thought it surely had sumthin to do with the East Coast in there, and then I remembered there was no C in ESPN. :headshake

WHAT DOES ESPN STAND FOR?

It doesn't stand for anything, but the story is this...When ESPN started in 1979 we were the Entertainment and Sports Programming Network (thus, ESPN). However, the full name was dropped in February 1985 when the company adopted a new corporate name --ESPN, Inc.--and a new logo. We are a subsidiary of ABC, Inc., which is a wholly owned subsidiary of The Walt Disney Co. The Hearst Corporation has a 20 percent interest in ESPN.

You actually play with real money?  I've never tried, I'd probably blow like 1000 in a day and have my parents kill me...

I play with real money too. In fact I made $6 today in cash game, which is solid. We played a bunch of different games. Usually we played hold 'em, but the last couple times we've been switching it up. We have created this new game called super poker. It's Omaha but you can use all 4 cards if you want. The hands you get are f***ing insane. I flopped a full house with 2 tens in my hand, with a flop of 10, Q, Q. A meaningless turn comes up followed by another Queen. The other guy had 4 of a kind.

I've played that...we called it four-maha.

We also play a form of lowball that I absolutely love. We call it three-deuce lowball...you get 3 cards, and the idea of the game is to make the lowest hand possible, with 3-2-A being the best...straights and flushes do not count. It's a draw game, and you get 2 draws. You can win some serious money playing that if you get good at it, and your friends understand the game. Like one night, mainly playing that in a cash game, I won like $40.

And I do play with real money too...obviously...I'd say overall, I've made a slight profit, however, within the past 2 or 3 months or so, I've made a huge profit...the first couple months I played, I was pretty much clueless(and don't think I'm not expecting the "but you still are clueless" line...I'm not that dumb...lol :lolhitting )

I started playing with real money just this past Thursday.

I checked on a flush, some guy went all in with his Ace high straight, and when all was said and done, I collected $60 in profit. Not bad considering that it was my first day playing for real money.

With those stakes I sure as hell hope you don't too often of some people are going to be big time in the hole. If we played with those stakes... Well let's just say we'd probably have to start paying taxes on our winnings. We play way too much to pull that off, lol.

So, today I checked on a full house (Aces over 9s), which, as in the case of the flush, was undoubtedly the best hand on the table at the time (I was dealt an Ace and a Queen of spades when I won with the flush). Another guy went all in with his full house (9s over Aces), and when all was said and done, I won about $25 in profit.

I don't recommend that anyone sandbag unless you know for certain that you (1) have the best hand out there and (2) know that your opponent will be betting strong. Obviously, it's going to blow up in your face at times when your opponent checks, but in the long run, sandbagging can be a powerful weapon.

And I agree that you guys (danman, cheat, witesoxfan, qwerty, dbaho, etc) should start playing for real money (or higher stakes if you already do), because those soxtalk tournaments were pretty much my only training outside of a few bulls*** games in person & I'm already an above average player because of it.

Oh yeah, the Feds :o

No need to worry, though. I'm a compulsive liar & the Feds know this. We've had plenty of run-ins.

Oh yeah, and I've already finished three books on the subject over the past month or so:

Super System (Doyle Brunson, Mike Caro, etc))

Poker Wisdom Of A Champion (Doyle Brunson)

No Limit Texas Hold Em (Daugherty & McEvoy)

If you guys know of any other great books on the subject, let me know. There were a s***load to choose from at the Borders on Michigan Avenue. That place is overwhelming.
