DBAHO
Garland has go to figure it out sooner or later. Mabey a change of scenery will be just what the doctor ordered It would be good for him, but not for us. We don't another Kip Wells on our hands just because we weren't patient. CubKilla
No offense but you guys are just insane. First off we lost the game the moment Ozzie but that pathetic lineup on the field. Second Jon gave us 7 IP. Casey Blake was hot. So we're the rest of the Indians. If he would of had a quality start you guys would still be saying that it was his fault. We couldn't of bought a run with that pathetic lineup we had on the field. This was a lose-lose situation. Secondly if any of you listened to was DJ said, which happens to be a fact, Jon has been very consistant about only giving up 3 to 4 runs a game. To ship a guy out of town who's been doing that when we can't even find a 5th starter who can keep an ERA below 7 then I think you people need a reality check. He has solid 4th starter numbers. As a 5th Starter he would be among the tops in all of baseball. Not all major league teams have 5 aces! GET OVER IT! You're such a Judy Tool. Is any game that Judy pitches where he gets an "L" ever his fault? All you do is make excuses for this piece of garbage. "It was the line-up!" "It was Ozzie!" "He didn't get any offense!" "Don Cooper cussed at him!" Do you write Judy's post game press conferences too? "If it wasn't for the error that led to 4 unearned runs that Judy couldn't pitch over, it'd be a different game!" When are you going to realize that Judy was sold to Sox fans as a future ACE that, after 4 seasons, has yet to have a >.500 season? Tool. beck72
Garland could be a good 5th starter for the Sox. Yet as Garland's salary creeps up into the millions of dollars, he's no longer a 5th starter. Most rookies are expected to put up the type of numbers Garland has, at only $300,000 a yr. He'll be getting 3rd starter's pay in 2005 through arbitration and should perform like one. Whether Jon will remains to be seen. "Potential" means nothing after 4 years. "Performance" means everything.
DBAHO
I think Ozzie's quote here of Garland pretty much sums it up; "It's a shame," Guillen said. "This is a kid that has all the talent in the world and doesn't use it. Maybe he loses concentration or whatever. I don't know if it's mentally, but when they get a couple of guys on base, maybe he loses concentration. "The package is there. He just doesn't use it." Former manager Jerry Manuel had the same criticisms of Garland, but Guillen had hoped he could get Garland to prove them wrong. Now it seems Guillen is just about done trying to paint a pretty picture. "He's a sinker-ball pitcher that gives up so many home runs," Guillen said of Garland, who allowed four long balls Sunday and has allowed a staff-high 29 on the season. "It makes you wonder. His numbers have been right there around average for a 3rd starter. But we need him to step up, because he isn't pitching well on the average. He's had too many 6 IP 8 ER games or something similar to that this season.

But, not enough people seem to realize the value of a 24 yr old starter that is effectively producing numbers comparable to the average 3rd starter for contending AL teams. We haven't had a decent number 5 starter in two years and why people want to dump Garland is beyond all logic in my opinion.
