Player you want the Sox to add?

I'd add Willie Mays when he was in his prime in CF.

If you are talking about players in today's game....I'd definately go with RJ or Zito....another tough-ass lefty to face the Twinkies.....preferably RJ, because of his high velocity, nasty-ass slider.

I'd go with Randy Johnson.

Maybe we could use a centerfielder, but one more front pitcher and wow.

If were being semi-realistic, I'd say Carlos Beltran.

LOL, Randy Johnson? That'll happen. ;)

But, like you said, if we're talking something in the realm of possibility, I'd go with a player like Darren Erstad. I know he's probably untouchable now that the Angles went on to win the WS, but we almost had him at one time, and I think he would be a great addition to the team. He could fill our CF need, and would be a good lead-off hitter. I love his hussle and desire.

I'd add Alex Rodriguez probably the best player defensively and offensively out there.  Would shore up that position for years.

Along with his $25M a year salary?

If we're not considering money, I agree. If we are, I think we could spend $25M MUCH more wisely.

s***, we'd be able to get Pedro and another quality starter for that money.

A-Rod would help us out a whole lot, but I think we can do without him

Not considering salary or probability at all..I'd have to go with RJ too...just look at this rotation...

Randy Johnson

Mark Buerhle

Bartolo Colon

Jon Garland

Danny Wright

We would go FARRR in the offseason :headbang

Now let's get back to reality :D

Realistic, Shannon Stewart at the trade deadline, he's got a one year deal and Toronto said it's his last, plays Center hits very well, could leadoff easily ect. Can't have too much pitching, but you won't know who you can get till later in the year.

Does he play CF? I thought he only played LF because of his weak arm....I know he DHed a little too.

If we could get him for dirt-cheap(like maybe 2 minor prospects)....it might be worth it.

He does play LF, and the only reason hes still a blue jay is because Ricardi is asking for a lot in return for the guy....

Richardi won't get much at the deadline, Stewart played CF earlier in his career, he could play it again.

I dont think he has a arm for it. Also he had some injury concerns that forced the move to DH/LF....

The hammy didn't bother him in the 2nd half last year, I think the move was more because of Cruz and V. Wells being able to play center much better. Either way that's a player I'd add(being more modest than some other posts on this thread), you likely would not, fair enough.

actually i agree with your selection quite a bit. Hes a great OBP guy and a proven lead-off man.. I think thats about the only area our O is lacking in. And as you said its a far more realistic suggestion then some of the others being bounced around :)

Shannon Stewart has an arm like a wet noodle but would be a great number 1 or 2 hitter.

can you imagine an outfield someday of maggs - borchard - vlad???

or how about adding barry zito to the staff??

zito , buehrle , colon , garland , wright???....wow

or how about this bullpen??

white ,wunsch , marte , gordon , koch , percival

or this infield

konerko , valentin , rodriguez , crede??

or piazza as our catcher

just adding one superstar to this team at any position would make us a 100 win team

The players I like to see in the Sox's Black and Silver are Jose Vidro or Luis Castillo as our 2nd baseman. Vidro is a good hitter, with power and great defense. Castillo can be our lead off hitter. He has good defense and can score lots of runs with our offense.

The pitcher I would love to see is Damian Moss who was traded to the Giants from the Braves. He is still young and last year he pitched great. He can fit in the rotation as the other lefty among the starters.

Without question I think you would have to add Randy Johnson. We could run a staff up there of (with likely # of wins in parenthesis):

Randy Johnson (20-24)

Bartolo Colon (18-20)

Mark Buehrle (18-20)

Jon Garland (12-15)

Dan Wright (12-15)

That gives us between 80 and 94 wins just from our starting 5!!! We would be the easy favorite to win the WS with three #1 starters on our staff.

I'd love one of those guys. They are probably my two favorite 2nd baseman in the majors. Soriano is very impressive, but he has such high k's numbers, and plays such crappy defense.

Castillo would be sweet. But I think he'd cost a ton. The thing is, we could dangle Willie Harris and someone else to land one, but, then you have to decide what to do with Jimenez/Manos.

I really liked Jimenez at the top of the lineup, my only worry is he hasn't proved it.
