The sox #2 priority behind addressing the glaring hole @ #5 is increasing thier contact/obp.... I'll explain further in a separate post in a few minutes. I think Borch is where he needs to be down lower in the order. Then why was Valentin playing in the 2 hole for so many at bats with the Sox every year? Exactly -- why would you want Borchard to get better pitches to hit? I'd prefer to see if he can learn how to handle anything a pitcher throws at him. The less protection, the better. Yeah, he's not a pitcher, but his below-.200 average and occasional lucky hit would allow us to pretend that we're in the National League. That would make Ozzie feel more at home. I can remember Felix Jose, Kevin Maas, Ken Phelps, Brooks Kieschnick, Sam Horn, Calvin Pickering, and Hensley Muellens hitting some moon shot homers as well - and how did their careers turn out, by the way? If you think that one simple at-bat by Borchard, (in which he timed the pitch perfectly and laid back and properly used his hands, head, and torso to drive the ball) constitutes a "future career trend," then I have some real wonderful oceanfront property in Nebraska to sell you - CHEAP. Pamela Anderson - Joe Borchard - someone who ate way too much food - a balloon about to be popped with a pin - they all illustrate one word - BUST.
