Yoda
I remember seeing these guys losing like every game right after the All-Star and completely falling apart once Petite was shut down for the rest of the season. But out of nowhere they get their heads together and start thinking about winning. Look at them now! They have a 9 game winning streak and are just 1.5 games out of that WC (73-63)! I ask myself, how did they do it? This is exactly what the White Sox need to do. Put together a good winning streak and get back into being playoff competitors. Wild Card Standings Chicago -- San Francisco -- Houston 1.5 Florida 2.5 San Diego 2.5 Edited September 5, 2004 by Yoda

I guess they are making their move at just the right time. GO STROS!!!
Chisoxfn
Remember Florida is also playing tremendous baseball, or at least they were, who knows how the Hurricane delay will effect them.

hammerhead johnson
I remember arguing with sox-r-us back in June that Houston was still a playoff caliber team (obviously), and he tried to argue that the Reds, Brewers, and Pirates are all better teams. That guy's gotta be eating buckets of crow right about now....sheesh.

hammerhead johnson
Who's "Ed"? I think he's talking about reliever Ed Vosberg. I'll take a pass.
danman31
My dad has been saying that they will win it as soon as they beat up on the Cubs. Hell of a call on his part! Go anybody but the Cubs! It really is going to be hard for the Cubs to cram a bunch of games in at the end of the season. They have played 6 fewer games than the Giants so that pitching staff, bullpen included, will be under a lot of stress.

Yoda
Damn... these Astros just keep rolling. They are killing Cincinnati at the moment and are after win #11. They look unbeatable and hopefully they can keep stacking up W’s.
Jordan4life_2007
Cubs lose 7-6. So the Marlins and Astros pick up a game.

Yoda
Cubs lose 7-6. So the Marlins and Astros pick up a game. But San Francisco chokes and the Cubs still have sole possession of the Wild Card (.5 lead).

The Critic
:fthecubs :fthecubs :fthecubs Ha Houston is your ass you son of a b****es. Stros came out of no where I wrote them off by the All-star break. EVERYONE was writing the Astros off after the All-Star break, and with good reason, it seemed. Pitchers getting hurt, Bagwell's bat looked REAL slow and they just seemed lethargic and depressed. People were predicting a fire sale, with Kent, Beltran and maybe even Clemens being dealt. Then out of nowhere, BANG! The Stros put a whomping on the Cubs and next thing you know they are ON FIRE and right back in the thick of the wild card race. IMO, the Cubs still have a favorable schedule, but they have to take advantage of it, and so far they haven't. If they're not careful, the Cubs could end up 3rd or even 4TH in the WC race, and what kind of HELL will they catch from all the angry sportswriters nursing broken ankles from jumping off their bandwagon! I for one would love to see Jackass Jay backpedal away from the Dusty Bunch!
YASNY
Save room at that table for me and dish me up a plate of crow. I wrote Houston off earlier too. You really have to give Scrap Iron a lot credit for turning that team around. For them to even grab the wildcard lead, whether or not the actually win it, is one hell of on accomplishment. Hat's off to the Atsros.

Texsox
Guily pleasure. I adopted Houston as my #2 team and have watched as that made the same horrible turn that the Sox season did, then this streak is making it interesting. They are kind of the "hometown" team here. Although the Rangers have a lot of fans also.It is just so hard to pull for a team to catch the Cubs and knock them out of the playoffs. Astros and Rangers are my co#2 teams after living down there as a kid. I like seeing both of them do well, and the fact that is could be Houston knocking the Cubs out of the playoffs is all the better.
