Crede Quietly Becoming a Star

Think about this for a minute.  Exactly one year ago (plus a few days) some genius decided to keep and START Royce Clayton and send Joe Crede to the minors.  And as a by-product of this decision, the Sox were privileged to pay Mr. Clayton $4-5 Large.

Of course the problem was that even if they decided to keep Crede and bench or release Clayton, they STILL would have had to pay him his $4.5 mm.

Crede wasn't ready in April 2002

He came up when ready.

And ]Crede  is not  quietly becoming a star, he will burst  on the scene like a bright super nova to be long remembered.

That would be great, but if Crede developes into an above-average solid thirdbaseman, I'll be happy. A righthanded Robin Ventura would be cool.

Thanks Cubkilla. I think Crede was a lot more "ready" a year ago than Clayton. But it's all ancient history now. I like this team. Crede is positioned to be a big time player, and Rowand looks to be recovered. He will be solid and will improve over the course of the season. Those two kids will really complement our better known sluggers.

I was shocked to read that Aaron Rowand only has 468 career at-bats. That's less than a full season's worth, so I now am fully on his bandwagon in saying that he deserves a shot to shine. Given regular playing time and the confidence of the team, he could definitely be an "x-factor" that a team needs in order to go all the way.
