WSoxShuf
I do not think Illini fans are happy with top 100. Perennial power house should take the best. I agree you should b**** about losing the top recruit in your state two years in a row.
whitesoxfan99
I do not think Illini fans are happy with top 100. Perennial power house should take the best. Not even the great Bill Self could get that done. And with the constant early entries to the NBA draft I will be very happy with top 100 players. I think we are going to start to see a trend (assuming no draft age rule is passed) of teams with the 4 year type guys having the best teams. And rankings mean zero. The best players in the country last year Emeka Okafor #99, Devin Harris not ranked, Ryan Gomes not ranked, yet you have a guy like Kelvin Torbert who was the #2 player coming out of HS. Edit- And losing Shaun Livingston did nothing to hurt the program (I'll take 4 years of Calvin Brock thank you very much). I was pissed at the time, but looking back it was for the best. You make a good point. In this day of age, it is hard to predict which players will develop and which won't. Wright has a better chance of being a Torbart in the college game, than a 2nd coming of CAnthony. I have seen Julian Wright play multiple times(since I use to live in HF), and he hasn't impressed me to say the least. He is your typical 6'8 althetic foward who can dominate smaller players and throw down nice dunks, but he does little else well. These are the type of players that often never live up to the hype at the college/NBA level, so don't declare Wright an All American just yet. Not to mention the fact that in this day of age, a so called top 10 recruit is as likely to jump straight to the NBA as he is to step foot on a college campus. Besides the 2005 recruiting class is one of the weakest in the past decade, as someone else pointed out. My boys, IU have gone the smarter route for 2005, and that is getting proven transfers, who aren't going to jet for the NBA, that will be eligible in 2005, and save your schollies for a much better 2006 class.
