AngelasDaddy0427
I would venture to say that Jose Valentin's time with the White Sox is, for all practical intents and purposes, done. Lets all pray thats the case
witesoxfan
Well....its nice to be right now and then, ive been saying that hes been done since the day I joined this board... But here my friends is the problem with the white sox, why did we resign a guy who alot of us here knew wasnt an asset to the team?!?!? We had to suffer through this entire season with him when if the team had any ability to judge talent should have known mustachio is and was DONE...he never was that good in the firstplace and IMO is one of the biggest reasons we have ZERO playoff appearances since 2000.... BUT that being said, good riddins and let the post Jose era begin in t-minus two weeks Get real. Jose has been one of the biggest power threats for a SS since 2000, he's had solid averages before, he hits very well in the clutch, he kills RHP, and he plays very good defense(unlike what some of you think...errors do not make a player bad defensively...Luis Aparicio is considered to be one of the greatest defensive SS's ever, yet, he made 20 and 30 errors a year). $5 mill was probably a little too much, but you consider that we would have had Uribe and Harris up the middle as our starters coming into the year, and I guarantee you that no White Sox fan would feel real comfortable with an up the middle combo of Uribe-Harris(and with good reason). Atleast with Jose, we knew what we were getting...a good start, a rough stretch in May, solid baseball in June and July, a drop off in August, and a better September...and that has held exactly true this year, with the exception of him not coming back to form in September. It is time for a change...but Jose has given us more then we asked for him. I just hope he goes somewhere where he can kill the Cubs some more. joemg311
I don't see why Jose hasn't gone back to switch hitting. I think its safe to say that the lefty thing isn't working out. watch him go back to switchin and have a pretty nice year for someone else next year. The bandwagon sox fans don't want to see Uribe at SS and Harris at 2B because they think that the only good player can be a player who is famous or making a whole lot of money. Anyone real Sox fan knows that it gives us a killer lineup. Willie has far exceeded expectations and so has Uribe. Not only that they are the best double play combo in baseball. This is our lineup again for 05 if you stand pat and Ozzie has a brain in his head: CF- Rowand SS- Uribe DH- Thomas 1B- Konerko LF- Lee RF- Everett/Escobar C- Ben Davis 3B- Joe Crede 2B- Willie Harris YEAH real horrible lineup here. Hatchetman
That lineup is average at best.

We almost got Nomar in the offseason anyways (granted, he probably would have been traded once he got here anyways, but you get my point). Who would have been a huge upgrade over him? Tejada? Nope. Would you have loved Rich Aurillia? Seattle didn't. Carlos Guillen anyone? Not before this season. I don't even remember who else was out there. Chisoxrd5
I don't see why Jose hasn't gone back to switch hitting. I think its safe to say that the lefty thing isn't working out. watch him go back to switchin and have a pretty nice year for someone else next year. I also think it was pretty safe to say that switch hitting was also not working for him...Hes pretty much proven that hes a .220-.240 hitter with good power, now alot of you like that....who am I to judge???? But for me, he wouldve been off this team two or three years ago, I have been on his case long before I posted here.... As for better alternatives, well I never thought Carlos Guillen would have been an acceptable option but look at how good of a year he had at Detroit! Maybe I can't provide an answer but I just dont think he should have been in a sox uni in 2004. And He kills RHP.... .227 in 2004 .265 in 2003 .259 in 2002 .267 in 2001 .254 Career Oh yea hes dominant.... And his defense is far from great...if you have watched him for the last few years you would notice he is unable to make a play if hes not striding or stepping towards first on the throw, any time he is off balance or drops his arm slot and doesnt throw over the top he will throw it away...The white sox have done a good job with him by getting him to do almost a little crow hop before every throw he makes...he has improved but he is far from great, mediocre, average and satisfactory come to mind. Uribe does have an extreme uppercut swing but besides that I love everything else he does on the field...If it wasnt for all his popups he would be a great player for us, hopefully that can improve next season
