Hoyt Wilhelm and Wilbur Wood

Ageless knucklers that would pitch til their arms fell off.

Of all that have been guessed these are pretty good. But the real winner is someone that no one will remember because if he was remembered, he couldn't have been that underated.

Along the same lines, the most under-expected was Fisk. According to management he was on his last knees as a catcher, yet went for years after that.

Jerry Dybzinski.

Just kidding. I still won't forgive him for that baserunning

blunder that cost the Sox a win over Baltimore with

Britt Burns pitching the game of his life.

Most underrated ever??

--Ralph Garr setting the table that one magical season.

--Pudge Fisk.

--Chet Lemon. He was damn good.

--Ken Kravec (again just kidding).

Ohhh Lemon was good I forgot him. Garr was good too.

Let's not forget Donnie Hill or Mark Salas

I like the choice of Rock Raines.

He was a stud.

When he was hot or reasonably hot, he was always on base.

And he whacked a lot of leadoff triples and hrs.

Seriously though, did I pick the winner in Chet?

Chet was sooo underrated. We got rid of him and he still

had a lot of ball left in him.

He made the finest catch I've ever seen.

I actually saw him when he was a Tiger and asked him about the

catch and he remembered every bit about it.

Somebody hit a line shot cannon in the gap

in old Comiskey and it was the kind of shot

you expect to one hop the wall.

All of a sudden Lemon appeared in the TV screen diving and making

an unreal catch.

Lemon trade was bad. Got Steve Kemp for him who was Solid in 1982 but left for the Yankees afterward

That is some deep thinking right there. We can always use deep-thinkers on the board.

So, welcome aboard...and I agree fully with you on this.

I'll throw out a name here. Ken Berry. Berry was a great defensive CF back in the 60's. He was also a smart ballplayer. He knew how to run the bases and knew how to steal a base. He wasn't a great hitter, be he was good enough. He did a lot of the little things that the current teams seems unable or unwilling to do.

I started watching the Sox back in the mid-to-late 80s, so I'd have to say that my choice for most underrated player would have to be Ozzie Guillen.

Most overrated player: Ron Kittle.

Although I loved the guy....

Kitty is one of the nicest guys you would ever meet. I still have a picture I got with him when I was 10 at Arlington Stadium, and he autographed it the next year at Comiskey

To Kitty :cheers

Now that is a guy we could use the booth.

Bobby Thigpen

Over the years 1987 to 1993 he saved 201 games for the boys.

Then he hurt his arm during a barnstorming trip to Japan and was never the same.

I don't think he ever got enough credit, even during he then record year of 57 saves in 1990 the press went to the likes of Eckersley and Righetti.
