No it won't.

How can you say 2005 wont be a disaster after you just said that it looks like Gload will be our starting 1b? Nothing like making a career journeyman your starter at a power position to guarantee 4th place. And by the way, maybe some of you Sox koolaid drinkers should read what others outside of the Sox organization or fanbase are saying about the Sox future. Not very promising, to say the least.

I don't care that's he's been a journeyman. Ross can hit, he can play first base and he's definitely one of the faster firstbasemen around. I don't care how some of their pitchers are pitching now that the sox are out of the race, they have a very nice rotation in place for next year especially if they add another top of the rotation starter. Add a couple bullpen arms, tweak the offense through trades or fa and the sox will be a serious contender next year.

Making Gload the 1b creates as many holes as it solves, which makes it a silly move to make. Think of all the good lefty starters in the AL central. Gload doesn't have a lot of MLB at bats vs lhp, and it's going to be tough to have to start against AL central starting pitching when about 33 percent of them are lhp. Therefore, we'd need another righty to come off the bench to play 1b. And no, I don't think Frank can fill in here. I can't picture Frank being too mobile in the upcoming years.

Well gload doesn't have a lot of ab's against lefties but he's absolutely mashed the one's he's faced this season. With the way he stays closed against them I think he can hit them pretty well. If you trade pauly for a good leadoff man by putting a better defender and more speed at 1st, obviously less power and a worse hitter, although ross is a better clutch hitter then I think your filling a hole instead of creating one.

Don't know whether or not Ross Gload is the answer at first, but by these numbers...I'd have to say not bad. And, I think he hits lefties pretty well.

Quick Splits:

vs. Left: .476 vs. Right: .284 Home: .305 Road: .305

Day: .296 Night: .311 Grass: .331 Turf: .125

Except for turf...not too shabby.

Not exactly a lot of ABs vs lhp for this stat to mean too much in the scheme of things. Yes, it's good that he's shown he can hit efficiently vs lhp. At least if he does start next year, he hopefully won't be like Valentin, Jimenez, and/or R. Alomar and be a total liability against a particular type of throwing pitcher.

I really hope the Sox can pull this one out, as a bright spot at the end of a dark season. Not that it would mean anything substantive for next year, just one game, but I don't want to be saying, "It was great when Paulie hit his 40th, it's just too bad we couldn't..." Let's go Sox!!!

Lecroy out at the plate, then a run-scoring single. Let's do some catching up here. :bringit

Well, his numbers have been great this year no doubt about that. I'm not just saying I think he can be a solid everyday player though because of the those numbers, I've been a big fan of Ross since I've seen him play for the sox. I love his hitting approach, I love the way he takes what pitchers give him, unlike a lot of guys on this team he's not pull happy, he'll hit the ball opposite way. I know a ton of people got down on him cause he dropped a couple of flyballs in the outfield, well he's not an outfielder. He's a very good defensive firstbasemen, he's got very good speed for a firstbasemen. Imo, gload can hit .280 over a full season, 20 homers, 75 rbi's. He's also one of those guys that hawk would say "don't tell me what he hits, tell me when he hits it," there aren't many other guys on the sox I'd want up more in a clutch situation then ross. I really do believe gload can be a very solid firstbasemen and maybe help the team more then pauly would and I know pauly puts up far better numbers but sometimes guys like Gload can help your team out more with his style of play under our current manager. With Konerko's value so high I definitely believe we could get a solid leadoff man and maybe a bullpen arm to go along with, the trade jason proposed a week or so ago Pauly for Furcal and Cruz doesn't seem that far out of the realm of possibility. Imo, it just makes perfect sense to trade Pauly when his value is at his highest, with a good replacement in place, and our manager and gm wanting to change the look of this team to more speed and defense.

Its nice to see Kubel and Restovich and Mourneau come up this year and look good, while Joe Borchard and Joe Borchard look both like total crap.

Jon Garland has the mental fortitude of a 7 year old. He can't keep the Minny B team down tonight. When he pitches like this, he and Danny Wright could fight over who is a worse number 5 pitcher. At least Wright was injured.
