Chisoxfn
Just want to say Cheat and Black Betsy, I've been reading both your blogs and they definately ROCK. Probably the best place to see stastical Sox info on the net and I really appreciate the work and effort the two of you put into your blogs
3E8
He has success out of the bullpen. He's obviously more comfortable there than starting.
Heads22
Oh yeah, definitley. I never say anything about either but they are both awesome reads.

3E8
No one has. A junkballer should not be a closer though. I think his 95% successful save rate says otherwise.
Chisoxfn
Regardless of whether he's overpowering or not, he's saved 18 of 19 if I recall and thtas plenty good to me. However, I don't want the Sox depending on him as the closer. Thus far he isn't proven in my book and since he is old you definately can have some questions about his durability. I do think at least some of his struggles can be contributed to the fact that he has thrown a lot more this year then he ever has in Japan. And speaking of junkballers and closers, one could say Trevor Hoffman is a junker. He tops out at 90 and is awesome with his change and is one of the very best in the game when heatlhy. When Hoffman was young he had a pretty good fastball, but he hasn't had that for a long long time and has still been very effective. I don't give a damn what you throw as long as you get guys out and Shigno does that. I just want to see the Sox have other options in case and some good set up men and what not, because a strong bullpen is an integral part of the game nowadays. SoxAce
I always said Diaz's future was in the pen, and so far I think that is still the basic reasoning.

BlackBetsy
Do we got someone trolling with someones Username? Cause trolling ain't easy Nah, just some self-deprecation. I haven't posted a whole bunch lately, so I kind of think my blog stinks. 160+ posts this year aren't too shabby, though - about 1 per game. If you're going to read any part of my blog, read my two-part series on the Sox having the chance to trade for Babe Ruth. It was fascinating to write, and hopefully it's a good read. This offseason, I hope to (1) finish up my series on the top 10 White Sox teams of all time; (2) create a Billy-Beane-esque roster for the White Sox (i.e., high-OBP hitters, low walk rate pitchers); and (3) buy the Cheat a pizza. AngelasDaddy0427
He has success out of the bullpen. He's obviously more comfortable there than starting. Sorry but I disagree. He is a starter so he would be doing just as well as such. It's not a case of being more comfortable out of the bullpen as it is him being more comfortable at the major league level. He put up killer numbers at AAA as a starter and IMO it was only a matter of time before he got comfortable. Jason Grilli has not been that good. I say give Felix the shot that he deserves. Gene Honda Civic
Another perfect inning and a third from Felix. Why in the heck ain't he starting yet? I expect a piece in Cheat's blog aobut this soon..... Yeah if there was a dog house section in my Blog it would be occupied by Timo Perez and Joe Crede. The penthouse section would be Rowand and Diaz right now... I've always been high on him, but he never gave me the numbers to back it up. I don't like writing about something without at least some statistical backing to it. Here's a comment I left on Betsy's blog back when Diaz's ERA was about 10. I'm still not down on Felix. I guess that's just the other half of me that does let stats get too far ahead of what my eyes are telling me. And what my eyes tell me with Felix (Althogh I did miss the first two innings last night) is that I believe he can be a good big league pitcher, and as soon as next season. The kid has had amazing command at AAA. But it seems to be just a hair off in the bigs. I believe that he can refine it, if given the chance in September. -------------------------- Oh and I plowed through some box scores today.... In reference to the Jon Garland "big inning" thing that Hawk and DJ keep stressing... Here's a sample Some of the numbers are damning, others aren't. -- 51% of JG's runs allowed come in "big innings" compared to MB's 41%. JG has allowed 16 big innings in 202 innings, or 8% of his innings. MB has allowed 14 big innings in 227 innings or about 6% of his innings. He's having success now. Let him stay right where he is and then come into spring training with some confidence. Whether he ends up starting or in the pen next year, him having success at this level, and maintaining it, can be huge for him in regards to 2005. Gene Honda Civic
I don't really think you can disagree with what he said i mean the fact is he has been terrible starting and ecellent in the bull-pen. /repeat Felix Diaz Quality Starts: 2 Run Support: 3.66 Jason Grilli Quality Starts: 0 Run Support: 8.06 Felix also gets dogged for his giving up the Gopher ball as a starter. But it's not exactly much different than Grilli. Grilli 33.1IP - 9HR's Diaz 32.2IP - 10HR's I agree with jeckle... You could physically see the change in Diaz's next to last start.. There's no doubt in my mind that Diaz would have a sub 4 ERA since that start vs. Oakland if he continued as a starter.. It was like a lightbulb went off over the kids head in the third inning of that start. I noted it on that night, and was cautiously optimistic. Now I'm convinced. Sure he's posted a 1.17 ERA in Sept mostly out of the pen, but I don't think there's any reason to think that he would continue to have THAT kind of success out of the pen. Neal Cotts had an ERA of 1.5something after 12 innings this season. Adkins had an ERA well below 3 all the way until July. I think his "getting it" just happened to coincide with ozzie deciding Grilli was his 5th starter.

But my point is just let him stay the rest of the year in the pen so that he will have something to build on in the off-season. I also think hhe can be a pretty good fourth or fifth starter. Hell probally a three in the national league.
