qwerty
What does it tell you guys about a player, or about a team, when it plays well after the pressue is off? That the team or player is just not very good.
Gene Honda Civic
I don't have the numbers right now but Crede has always hit well against KC. easy enough. .259/.318/.475 -- 8HR's and 31RBI in 158 AB's

beck72
If the sox upgrade at SS or 2B, and C, then the Sox could take a chance on Crede becoming consistent in 2005.

southsider2k5
Would you consider uribe an upgrade over crede or valentin? I would consider Juan an upgrade over Jose, but I would take a chance on Crede over Uribe at 3B. I really get the feeling we will regret dealing Joe Crede. Gene Honda Civic
Which is not exactly good. Decent at best. It is his highest RBI total against any one team, and one off of his highest HR total against any one team. FWIW.

My feeling is that they are married to their third baseman that they choose for next season for 2 years... It will be at least that long before Josh Fields can be ready. And there will not be another FA class for thirdbasemen like the one that's about to happen anytime soon.

I know and that is the sad sad thing. He sucks and we need to move on i don't think it is worth holding on to him for 2-3 more years waiting for his adrian beltre type season and have him leave to free agency anyway. I would rather have someone like koskie, hillenbrand, mueller for the next couple years while we are waiting for fields.
beck72
Would you consider uribe an upgrade over crede or valentin? I would consider Uribe an upgrade over Jose. I'm not sure if Uribe can play 3B on an everyday basis but he could be an upgrade over Crede as well. But the Sox need a very good consistent veteran to play at one of those 3 IF spots for next year--a leader, top of the order type guy. The Sox could upgrade at SS, and have Uribe rotate at 3B and 2b [provided Willie or Joe aren't traded--though Joe is more likely than Willie to be traded]. Or get a guy like Polanco to play either 2B or 3B, and have Uribe at SS.

Teams will have a lot of options at 3B [Which will probably bring down the Crede price in terms of trade talent]. The key is what kind of hitter would the Sox get @ 3B to replace Crede, and who they'd get in return. Teams most likely to want Crede are low payroll teams, who would probably only give A ball prospects. That's why keeping Crede, and signing a Vizquel at SS for 2 years [with Uribe the likely replacement] might make sense. Uribe could then be the back up [or starter] at either 3B or 2B, if Harris or Joe don't get their acts together. If Fields is the real deal, then locking into a long term deal with a 3B man doesn't make sense [though Koskie would likely only get a 2 yr deal with an option for the 3rd year]
Pastime
There is no guarantee that Josh Fields will ever make the major leagues or amount to what he's projected to be. Before we start penciling him into the lineup 2-3 years from now, let's be real and not declare him the next Robin Ventura just yet. He has a lot of potential, but a lot of our guys have had lots of potential, and how many of them have amounted to s***? Not many. As for our current 3B - .238-19-66, with an OBP of .298 and a SLG of .412. LOL!! STUD. We could have gotten that production from Jose Hernandez or Russell Branyan. Pffft. Keeping Crede makes sense if the sox can improve at other positions [OF, C, SS, 2B], trusting that Crede can solve his horrible slumps and be more consistent. With him getting hot now, [and looking back at the 2nd half from last yr] he should have tape of what he's doing right now and what he was doing poorly before. When he's been hot, hit gets hits ala Frank, whatever hits his bat falls in for hits, even pitcher pitches and balls out of the zone. with the glut of 3rd basemen this yr. being available [via FA and trade], the Sox wouldn't get much if anything for him. Might as well keep him and have Uribe as the backup plan
