greg775
OK, if Garland or even E-Lo way back when had the outing Contreras had tonight, he'd be roasted on this message board. You tell me Contreras isn't as big as a question mark as Jon? Contreras has not been great. Freddy has not been great. Baseball is full of mediocre pitchers. Jon is one of them. Contreras is one of them. Freddie I think is better than mediocre, ditto Buehrle. But you can't tell me you are counting on consistency from Contreras in the future. We still saw the best and worst of Contreras tonight.

It is terrible that garland may once more be our three next year. Because contreras certaintly is not a 3.

My ideal rotation for next season. Buerhle Garcia Odalis Perez Contreras Garland Diaz or Grilli as the long man / 6th starter

Contreras is a bigger question mark than Garland. I have much more faith in Garland. You know you will get at least a near .500 performance out of him. I can see Contreras make us long for the days of Jamie navarro or Todd Ritchie. I really think he can be THAT bad. I'm not saying he will be, but I can see it happening. AngelasDaddy0427
I just don't get some of you people. We are fans of a team that hasn't had anything close to a remotely decent 5th starter in over a decade and yet all you do is b**** because our 4th starter in almost a sure 12 game winner. He is a headcase who stays away from his fastball if anyone hits it hard. But I think that there was a little progress, because when he would get into the forkball mode, Sandy would bring him back out and make him throw a change up in the zone, or a breaking ball for a strike on the first pitch. I think that if they can get him to set up his fastball instead of leading with it, he will strikeout alot more batters, and induce more ground balls. He didnt pitch that bad, got himself into some bad situations, and in the past he would have blown up for 15 runs, but they always brought him back to letting the other team hit some ground balls. Here's what I'm wondering...are we, as a fan base, still happy with got Contreras for Loaiza, especially with that albatross of a contract? greg775
Next year is it for Jon. If he's a .500 pitcher at best again, he's done. He had a decent season. Next year he excels or count him as another bust. He's 26 next year, right? It's time to go 18-11 or bye bye.

Not as big as a declining E-Lo would have wanted which is a positive in itself.

Personally, I think he should our #4 starter, and his stuff is so good than we can't give up on him. Let's see how he looks in the 1st 2 months of next season afta Coop and Ozzie have had spring training to nail in some thoughts into his head, before making a better judgement. Who's making a judgement. I'm just saying he's a massive question mark and having Garland around would take some of the sting out if Contrares is a bust. All I'm saying is that we'll know next season whether or not the Contreras trade was a success or not. I definitely agree with keeping Garland around as the 5th starter. Garland gave up more than 3 runs in 1 inning 13 times this season. If he can get that into single figures next season, he'll be a MUCH better pitcher.
