greg775
Carlos Lee hit a grand slam and two run homer today. He has 31 home runs. He has 99 RBIs. He has NO errors and an errorless streak of 163 games. Helluva year Carlos Lee. Congrats to you. I hope we keep you. p.s.The victory Wednesday gave the Sox at least 80 wins for the fifth straight season. That's why I think we should tinker again. Bring back Frank and Maggs and add a couple good players via free agency and see where it lands us. If we completely dishevel the team, we're screwed, folks. KW cannot reassemble a team. He's not good enough.
greg775
Good point, Tony, but my point was if we completely tear up the team, we may win about 60, not 80. I'd rather take a base of 80 wins and work with that. Sign Frank and Maggs, upgrade at ss. Add a starter, middle reliever and move around our bench guys. qwerty
Congrats to Carlos. Question. Im not saying Carlos should win the GG, I dont think he is a Gold Glover, but has any other LF in the AL had no E's??? Just wondering. Vernon wells and lee are the only outfielders in baseball that have perfect fielding percentages. But wells is a center fielder so to answer your question, yes lee is the only left fileder this year without committing an error.
ZoomSlowik
I don't think we should totally blow apart the team, but I don't think bringing everyone back is the answer either. Maggs looks like he's gone, and at a minimum Valentin, Jackson, and Schoenweis should go too. We need to add one of the better SP, although I think our first priority should be a major arm in the pen. If we do both and keep Thomas, Lee, Konerko in the middle of the order with Rowand mixed in somewhere, I think we can fair pretty well. My dream offseason would be adding something like Pavano, Renteria, and Benitez or Percival, however I doubt that would happen.
qwerty
Wow, I just looked at the numbers. I think Carlos might win the AL GG. LF Stats No way he wins it he is not a gold glove type fielder. Ozzie and him have both also said he is not a gold glover.
Rowand44
O wait, you can choose 3 CF for the gold glove right??? Correct.
qwerty
Correct. That is a retarded rule imo. It should be the best from each individual position, it only seems fair.
DonkeyKongerko
Yes and usually the winners are 2 CFers with an Ichiro. Remember, it's alot easier to win two gold gloves than one.
ZoomSlowik
Off the top of my head two of the spots are locks with Torii Hunter and Ichiro(I don't know if I buy Wells as the next best, but I wouldn't be surprised). You guys are right, it is definitely unfair to select more than one CF since they are typically the best fielders(outside of Ichiro) and because of the amount of ground they cover have more opportunities to impress everyone with a great play. witesoxfan
I agree. Why not just do 4 IF gold gloves? RF CF and LF should all be given out. Because OF is essentially the same thing, while you have MI's who have to be small, quick guys and usually you see 1Bman as being big guys who hit the hell out of the ball. However...what I would like to see happen is have 1 GG for CF and 2 GG's for corner outfielders...CF is quite a bit different from LF and RF, though LF and RF are not too different from each other. Ehh...How comfortable would you have been exchanging Carlos and Maggs? I think Carlos has been underrated for a while now, but I still don't like the thought of swapping the 2 of them. I think Carlos has been underrated for a while now, but I still don't like the thought of swapping the 2 of them. I think the main difference between RF and LF is that you need to have an arm in RF, and not so much in LF I think Carlos would be adequate in RF for a short time, but his arm would hurt him big time if he remained there for quite a while. Maggs arm, at the very least, was decent enough to have him be out in RF.

I just think there is a noticeable difference between lf and rf, that's all.

YASNY
Another awesome year for "the lawn ornament", as he was known around her before the 2003 season. Another guy several people wanted to dump.

The Critic
Another awesome year for "the lawn ornament", as he was known around her before the 2003 season. Another guy several people wanted to dump. To be fair, before he made MASSIVE improvements defensively in 2003, Carlos was a pretty scary LF. He took AWFUL routes to the ball, dropped many a catchable flyball and his throwing was an adventure. To see where he is today compared to where he was then is nothing short of amazing, and he should be applauded. Perception will keep him from receiving a Gold Glove, but an errorless season ( during which he played HARD and didn't shy away from tough plays ) should definitely NOT go unheralded! CARLOS LEE 2004!!!!
Reddy
outta curiousity... why trade a .300 30 100 guy or a .280 41 115 guy? i mean... why trade either of them? dump maggs and jose, trade garland... and i'm sure you can get a top tier starter and some bp help... Because you can get incredible value for them, and you have replacements for them Or because you're stupid. It's usually the former...but not always.
