DBAHO
Must be the Omar Minaya influence already. Only hours into his five-year term as Mets general manager, Omar Minaya already has a list of candidates in mind for the managerial vacancy, and near the top are Rangers hitting coach Rudy Jaramillo and White Sox third-base coach Joey Cora. Minaya would not reveal his picks, but a person familiar with his thinking said Minaya is exploring the availability of both. There apparently also are more established names on the list, including Jerry Manuel, Jim Fregosi, Don Baylor and even Bobby Valentine. Cora, who played 11 years in the majors, was fired by the Mets after two seasons (2001- 02) managing at Rookie League Kingsport because he was not believed to be a great teacher. But Cora worked in the Expos' system under Minaya as manager for Class A Savannah in 2003 before joining the White Sox.
southsider2k5
Wow, Joey is hot. He did a great job here this year, and definately would be missed.
WSoxShuf
I doubt Joey gets the job, but good luck to him.
DBAHO
Wow, Joey is hot. He did a great job here this year, and definately would be missed. It'll be real interesting to see who the Mets hire. If they hire Cora, Jaramillo or Don Baylor then you'll know Minaya won out. If they hire Jim Fregosi, Lenny Dykstra or even Wally Backman, than you'll know the owner Fred Wilpon won out again.
santo=dorf
Boy, the Mets are considering bringing back Valentine? I also saw Jerry Manuel's name in that article too. I don't want to see Baylor get the job because it would end the streak of fired Cub managers that never managed a big league team again. Think about it. JoshPR
Jerry Manuel?? Would he be able to fall asleep in New York? Heck I wouldn't mind Art howe as a coach for the Sox
HoosierSox
I would hate to see Joey go. Hes one of the best third base coaches in baseball but if he gets the job good for him.
Mr. Showtime
No. That type of thing doesn't happen in NY, the fans won't stand for it.
MinnesotaSoxFan
3rd base coach to Team Manager is a pretty big jump. Don't expect him to be there.
greasywheels121
3rd base coach to Team Manager is a pretty big jump. Don't expect him to be there. That's exactly what Ozzie did.
WilliamTell
If Joey does get the job, do you think Harold Baines will try to be 3rd base coach and if you do think so, how well do you think he'll do?

I don't think he will get away sleeping on the field.
WilliamTell
I don't think he will get away sleeping on the field. Well obviousy..... he said he wanted a more important role and that would be a more important role.

YASNY
No. That type of thing doesn't happen in NY, the fans won't stand for it. I think NY fans would rip Cora to shreds. He has no NY history. His diminutive stature and lack of a big name would all work against him.
